Could people be mistaking the Slender Man for an ape-like creature? As the Slender man teleport about and those who get a clear look at him/it tend not to report the encounter, this could explain a lot. People should likely be happy that they are only getting fleeting glimpses of "Bigfoot."

What?

No, because:

a) Slender Man wears a suit.
b) Slender Man is a product of a Something Awful thread about making fake paranormal pictures
c) As far as I'm aware there is no evidence that Bigfoot wants $20.

a) If someone actually got a good photo of "Bigfoot" who knows what he would be wearing?

b) Both are imaginary, so both are as likely to be found in the woods.

c) Who doesn't want $20?

I was thinking of the wisdom of people who intentionally run around the woods with flashlights looking for supernatural creatures. If these people really believed in the supernatural they probably wouldn't do that.

Furs probably. PETA would love him.

But one is more imaginary than the other. So it's even less likely to be found in the woods.

c) Who doesn't want $20?

Bigfoot clearly. Otherwise we'd be hearing more stories of people being shaken down by Bigfoot for that money.

Also the Loch Ness Monster who only wants $3.50.

Boo... you're no fun.

I thought the point of cryptids was that they didn't possess interdimensional travelling abilities and so you could run around in the woods with torches looking for them.

Aye, Slendy would be classified as a minor eldritch abomination and not a cryptid. Although I always assumed the point of all ghost or cryptid hunting was that the hunters were knowingly engaging in an act of fraud.

Exactly. But as far as I'm aware Bigfoot is a cryptid. Have I got that wrong?

Although I always assumed the point of all ghost or cryptid hunting was that the hunters were knowingly engaging in an act of fraud.

There would be some of both groups who honestly believe that they're looking for these things. I guess the cryptozoologists would think that if it exists they should be able to actually find it. But then their standards of evidence appears to be so low that anything could be considered evidence for the thing they're looking for.

What? Who is the Slender Man?

A minor eldritch abomination. Wears a suit, has no face, really long legs and (multiple) arms, eats kids, wants $20.

Is also creepypasta since it's completely made up. Perfect time to read all this stuff is sometime after midnight.

That forum looks interesting, never heard of it before either.

If Bigfoot was real more bigfoot hunters would get eaten, I imagine. If packs of wolves or mountain lions were loose in the woods, would the bigfoot hunters behave a little differently?

Bigfoot hunters remind me of "Chanellers." Who woke up one day and said "Do you know what would be a good idea? Letting dead people possess me and dispense wisdom." Umm, sure, that makes perfect sense. I can't see how that could go wrong.

There are wolf packs and mountain lions in the woods in the more remote areas. You go prepared for such, I'm open minded about the existence of bigfoot but as far as people out there hunting bigfoot....it's just a camping trip.

Wasn't bigfoot "completely made up" at some point? How are the origins of bigfoot and slenderman not equal?

We can look at the Something Awful thread and see the origins of Slender Man. We know the reasons why such a thing was created and also see how it developed.

As I understand it Bigfoot is an evolution of native mythologies just dressed up with pseudoscience. We don't have the same clarity on the origins of Bigfoot that we do in the case of Slender Man.

But you are exactly right in saying that they were both made up at some point.

Slenderman wins hands down over BF. The Slender Mythos is genuinely interesting and creepy. Some of the crosslinked Slenderblogs are great Halloween season entertainment. The photos and videos of Slenderman are more convincing than Bigfoot ones.

At best Bigfoot is just a big old gorilla that no one can find. Slenderman is a tulpa like phenomenon that has allowed an Eldritch Abomination to enter our reality taking the form and behaviour of the internet meme through collective consciousness and fear. Typically, excessive exposure to the Slenderman meme online and experimentation to test it will result in "infection" and being slenderstalked but as the number of believers - or even viewers - rises, so too does Slenderman's ability to manifest independently.

So sure, Slenderman's distant passage through the early morning mists of the ancient forests could be mistaken for Bigfoot. Why not? ;)

Besides, How many free Bigfoot games are out there?

[mode=wetblanket]I have yet to find a Slender Man video that I can honestly say I found creepy. His video appearances look too much like a dummy in a business suit to provoke an uncanny valley reaction or unsettlement.

After reviewing Marble Hornets, although the videos obviously took considerable creativity and skill, I'd have to judge it one of the worst Alternative Reality Games ever, considering there's absolutely nothing whatsoever for "players" to do except for watch the videos that come out - there's no puzzles to solve, no phone numbers to call, no letters to write or packages to receive in the mail; where's the "game"? I think it could more accurately be described as an internet TV series; and in that category, it's certainly one of the coolest I've seen. Creepy? That's reaching.

I did like this video, though:

I wonder what happens if you try to take away Slenderman's beef jerky? Nothing good, I am guessing.
