I just watched a documentary called Between the Folds (available on Netflix streaming) and I found it extremely beautiful. I don't often have that reaction to a documentary or movie.
It takes a look at several origami artists ranging self taught individuals to a Cal-tech professor who design and fold some of the most beautiful pieces of art I've seen in some time. They range from realistic pieces to the really abstract...all made by folding a single piece of paper. It also touches on some of the practical parts of origami such as airbag and satellite lens folding and also protein folding.
A truly interesting person they interviewed is a genius, Erik Demaine who got his PhD at Computational Origami at the age of 20 and is a current MIT professor and mathematician. He does mathematics, origami, glass blows and is a tetris master. His passion for origami and math really shines through.
I'd really recommend this documentary if you can find it.
