Best Hotel for Cruise

Hello,

I'll be sending this out in e-mail to registered cruise passengers as well.

During my last trip to the JREF, I looked at some of the local hotels. There's one that stands out as the best value, and I thought I'd share it with you.

It's the
Comfort Suites Airport & Cruise Port
1800 South Federal Highway Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316

If you book through http://www.hotelkingdom.com (no affiliation with anyone) you can get a room rate of about $75 a night including taxes. The standard rate for this time of year starts at $110, so this is a great deal.

Hotel details are here. It's 8 blocks from the JREF on a dog leg.

And, they offer FREE transportation to/from the airport and the cruise terminal.

I visited the hotel. It's not a Motel 6 and it's not the Ritz. If you were at the Stardust in LV, it's comparable (without the casino and shops). It seemed old but clean, with standard hotel rooms (I sneaked into one. The couple in bed didn't seem to notice.) There was a refrigerator.

Other than the price, the other thing this hotel has going for it is location. you CAN walk to the JREF from here if you can stand a 25 minute walk in 90F temps with high humidity. I still recommend a taxi. However, this is the closest hotel to the JREF and it's also very close to the port and dozens of local restaurants. I will probably be staying here.

Ach.

I already booked at another hotel.
And... well... It would take me a heck of a lot longer than 25 minutes to walk 8 blocks in 32 degree heat (celsius of course :D ).

In fact I would most likely melt on the way.

Chances are your other reservation is fully refundable, if you're interested in changing.

Really? What the heck hotel doesn't let you cancel with a 4 month notice?

Holiday Inn Express Air / Sea Port.
1150 W. State Road

Advance Purchase...(better rates that way)

It also has a complimentary shuttle airport-hotel and port-hotel.

What hotel for Cruise?

L Ron Hubbard's yacht.

I'll see myself out...

Yes, you can get better deals if you pay for the hotel ahead of time. hotelkingdom.com is kind of like that. I use hotels.com a lot, and there's a $25 fee for cancellations there.

If you want to see a really cool travel tool, check out http://www.travelaxe.com. It's a metasearch tool that quickly finds the best deal in any city.

If you happen to use it for Ft. Lauderdale, know that I've looked at the lower price properties and they're much farther away.

Booked a room today for 27 August, one Queen Bed and one Queen-size Sofa Bed for $69.66 (w/taxes). You throw in the free airport and cruise port transportation and it's a good bargin, long as the bedbugs are no larger than a mini-SUV...

BTW, Jeff, I looked at the Port Everglades homepage and it appears that there are 4-5 separate terminals for various cruises--do you know which one we'll be going out of?

They're all right next to each other. When you enter Port Everglades you go through a security booth, tell them which ship, and they'll tell you which terminal. Think of terminals like gates in an airport in this case.
