I tried doing a search of this site, but it was less than useful.
I was wondering if we could make a list of the more ... interesting believer message boards for those of us who may feel the need for a humor break.

Sometimes debating the sillier things in life can be a good stress relief.

Any help from the home team?

Try the "debating the soul" thread (about the third page) for a link to the reader's digest debate on whether there is a soul...at this point, it has morphed into a handful of JREF folks and a handful of fundies in a mud-wrassling match.

OOOoooohhhhh!!
Mud Wrasslin!

No chance Girl 6 and Renata are involved I suppose?

The boards at ghostvillage.com are interesting.

I post there whenever I am feeling inspired or bored.

To give you an idea, recently there was a thread by someone with no English skills about how the Necronomicom was an ancient, and truly dangerous book. It was locked after seven pages, and many personal insults and H.P. Lovecraft references.

College Wicca Message Forum

Here's an excerpt from one post:http://www.collegewicca.com/forum/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=3&TopicID=67&PagePosition=1

No one should ever have to choose between one path or another. The whole point of being Pagan, etc, is the strong point of individuality. Whatever path you choose is correct. You can combine as many as you want to, take pieces from different paths, cultures, religions, cults even, and put them together to form YOUR path.
Truth be d***ed!

Well, it's not a religious board, but one of my buddies loves trolling the Ms. Magazine board.

The ban immediately if you're not extreme leftist feminazi, but you might have some fun reading or posing as a woman.

A very small board populated with hyper-patriotic super-Christers is one where many refugees from the Newsmax.com boards wound up at after it was shut down.

You'll really like the Culture and Society section. Look for posts by angrygranny (who apparently hasn't mastered typing on a BBS despite doing so for at least 3 years) and Wise, whose name is a complete misnomer. Spec 44 and Dongha are two guys from my work. Dongha got a bit weird with the religion thing before he left about a year ago, but I see it's progressed on the other board.

I just went to that site for the first time and checked out the thread on gender gaps in education. The thread was opened with an article that discussed the deficit of males among college students, and cited a degree gap between males and females, with females leading by a good margin up to the Master's level and males leading by a narrowing margin at the Ph.D level. So anyway, almost every post on the subject went something like this:

Statistic: Females outnumber males among college students
Interpretation: This is because females have to get more degrees than males to earn the same amount of money
Conclusion: The statistic proves that females are oppressed.

Statistic: Males outnumber females in technical programs like physics.
Interpretation: Females are being discriminated against in the sciences
Conclusion: This proves that females are oppressed.

At one point someone used the phrase "patriarchal scientists" dismiss some research data which showed chemical differences between boys & girls brains.

Oy. I think I'll stick to the JREF forum.

Christianforums.com is insane.

The words "Uniting all Christians as one body" is at the top of every page... ???... I'm not sure what it means but I'm willing to bet its a metaphor of some kind.

Apparently they had a policy where all non-Christians on the forum had their account removed, I dont think they have that policy anymore.

They have a board called "General Apologetics", the board description is "The branch of theology that is concerned with defending or proving the truth of Christian doctrines with non-believers".

I viewed a thread called "Atheism... A walking logical contradiction". Dont worry kiddies, its only some guy who thought he'd divide the word "atheism" into its 2 component roots "a" and "theos". I really like the second post in the thread, it reads "Ain't semantics a hoot? You want me to be an agnostic, then call me one. I still won't believe in God".

The use of the "what came before the big bang... you dont know do you... I told you God existed!" arguement is quite common.

There was a thread called "God exists and his existence is self evident". The person went through plenty of time composing the enormous post (it was very very long, its the "overwhelm them into conceding" approach to debate). The post can be summed up in these words: God's existence is self-evident [bible quote here], although he makes no effort to make his existence evident [apologetic response here], you've just got to have faith, [bible quote here], oh, and Darwin is stupid.

I havent browsed the site very long, but the forum is legitimately "nutty" as far as believer's forums go.

(I didnt browse the site long enough, but I know if I did eventually I would see one of those "left-handedness is a choice" metaphors... I did really want to come across someone who would go through the time composing the metaphor on the boards. Why? Just for a laugh, that metaphor is touted only by the "smaller minded", its pretty easy to rip that metaphor to shreds.)

I hadn't really checked out any of the threads there, but the gist of the thread you mentioned is exactly the same gist my co-worker gives me for every other thread he gets involved in over there.

From the other one I posted, here's a link and an OP you might find interesting.

www.heraldtribune.com "Poll: Majority approves display: Moore tactics get less support"....9/7/03 dateline Birmingham, Ala. "poll released Sunday 9/7 found 2/3 of those surveyed believe the 10 Commandments should be displayed in the Alabama judicial building, but suspended Chief Justice Roy Moore's defiance of a court order to remove the 5,280-pound granite monument had less support."
"..600 registered voters surveyed last week......68% SUPPORTING Moore's position that the Ten Commandments should be displayed on public property.
49% said Moore...should not have defied U.S.Dist.Judge Myron Thompson's order.."
"Thompson ruled last year that THE MONUMENT'S DISPLAY....VIOLATED THE CONSTITUTION'S BAN against government promotion of religion."
that ruling I predict and pray, will be found in the top court as an unlawful and erronious order!
the Const'n NEVER BANNED PROMOTION OF RELIGION! the writers of the Const'n
began national government promotion of religion immediately! first book printed was a "Federal" version of the Bible!
and "Snipper" Thomas Jefferson, as Judge Moore pointed out, 2 days after using the phrase "separation of church and state" on Jan.1, 1802, (Jefferson) .. "was in Congress listening to a Baptist minister, where they worshipped throughout HIS administration"!!!!!!!
GO! Judge MOORE!

The typing style is quoted verbatim.

I lost count of all the believer message boards who are convinced I am the devil.

I went ahead and joined the rapture(something) board.
Looks like a fun bunch of wacky kids.

Hi there. As the resident expert on fundie boards, allow me to chime in with a small list, along with some examples of what you should expect to find.

BaptistBoard - A board close to RR (see below) for sheer hilarity, they've unfortunately decided to ban all non-fundies. They even require a "Statement of Faith" for new members joining the forum. Luckily, non-members like myself can still view pretty much everything of interest.

Highlights:

"is it right for men to post in forums moderated by women? isn't this an example a of lady having authority over a man? how about in a christian forum? should a christian lady exercise authoiry over her brothers in this way?"
- timothy 1769
"Hogwash John Ritter is no more saved then a pig is saved... John Ritter didn't have integrity so he played an immoral character on an immoral sitcom [Three's Company] that glorifed a man living together with two unmarried women for the glory of the devil and influenced many to follow his example. As I said John Ritter is in hell where he belongs..."
- greatday
"It's quite simple. If God wanted interacial marriages, then whites would have been born to blacks, Indians into orientals, blacks into Indians, whites into orientals, and so on and so on.

But no. God kept the races seperate except for economic mingling and/or slavery or servitude.

It has always been dispised by all races, until recently with some perverted liberal thinking."
- Justified
"The only reason we think slavery is such a horrid evil is because we are so full of pride we don't like the idea of another man telling us what to do. Well tell me this, if God sees fit, in His providence, to make me subject to another man, who am I to complain of it? The anti-authority mentality that spawned the abolitionist movement is the same mentality that spawned the feminist movement, the 'children's rights' movement, and the 'sexual revolution' - aka hippy movement."
- Mark Osgatharp

ChristianForums - this is a very popular forum, and as a result you'll never want for new topics and replies to read. Many, many subforums which include topics such as spirituality, apologetics and science. It also has a nice contingent of nonbelievers, and quite a few liberal xians. My personal favorite.

Highlights:

"Either you get it, or you don't. There is no sense trying to convince someone of this. Everyone will know the truth shortly after they die. I just wish we could capture the look on their faces on film!"
- Lawyer4God
"Excellent post!!! Yes, they couldn't charge enough for that film baby!!!

'Tonight at 6....non-Christian screams in horror upon realizing heaven really existed and he didn't know Jesus as Lord and Saviour.' So classic!!!!"
- KeysforChrist
"It kinda of surprises me that you would ask that question... Before science ever got involved, we had a TV, Radio, Photograph, Movie Camera, Telephone, to name a few. What science gave us was the transister, and later the micro processor."
- JohnR7
[Commenting on a news story involving a child born with a tail]

"The seeds of Satan are returning!.. Yep. A full grown tail without fur. Now I have to wonder how these genes got into the human gene pool since we know that we did not evolve from the animals."
- jhessel
"I personally like the terms pro-death, pro-murder, pro-childabuse and so on. I stand firm on if someone wants to slaughter a baby then they can have a rusty hanger and a dirty back alley. Sin is filth and abortion is sin. Do it without all the fluffy utensils and sterile beds. You want to murder, do it like John wayne gacey in the dark recesses of society and take your chances."
- ByGrace
"How is it impossible to flood the entire world?... Where do you think the rainbow came from? There is no scientific explanation. You have no proof the flood didn't happen."
- beetlequeendiva

Christianity.com Forums - This board, while extremely popular, isn't the best on formatting or posting abilities. They use what appears to be a proprietary, rather ugly forum software I've never encountered anywhere else. Nevertheless, all the standard UBB/VB formatting tags appear to work, so it should be familiar enough. Oh, and almost everyone I know who posts there has been banned.

Highlights:

"Try going to a satanic chatline and see how tolerant they are when you mention 'Jesus'. After they curse you and cast spells on you and things start flying around your room, you will never go back."
- ArthurR
"Now with all that out of the way; was BURNING SODOMITES ALIVE, a loving thing?... YES. The BURNING ALIVE OF THE SODOMITES WAS A LOVING THING!!! GOD is love, correct? If you don't believe me, go read 1 John right now... So when HE burns alive all the Sodomites the core of that action is love. YES, tough love, but none the less love."
- Sola Gratia
"I often log onto that site to do research myself. There are links to expose the works of satan such as Harry Potter, Pokemon, Veggie Tales, Role playing games, etc."
- Jason

RaptureReady - This is, perhaps, the ruling, undisputed king of hilarious fundamentalist boards. With young-earth creationists outnumbering anyone sane by at least 20 to 1, many active posters who can charitably be described as ... reality-challenged, and topics such as 'Circular Reasoning in the Catholic Church' and 'Did you know Darwin's theory was originally a practical joke?', you'll never go more than 5 minutes without laughing out loud at some of the wackiness.

The moderators will warn and ban you for failing to capitalize the word "God". They've also recently modified the Apologetics section so that only registered members can view it, presumably to cut down on the amount of undecided lurkers being convinced to join the good side by the regular smackdowns the fundies received.

Highlights:

"There are many children born in the world for no other reason than to be scrificed to Saten as soon as they're born.. It is like a breeding program Satenists have..these babies are concieved and born with no record of their birth for no other reason than to be killed.."
- katt
"And there is a documented case where a missionary went to africa and saw people change into werewolves and do many unmentionable things that cannot be done unless under the influence of daemons. Wicca and Paganism isn't something to be Knocked. It is a valid religion.. it is of satan, eventhough they do not freely admit it."
- antsinmypants
"And my sister was playing around with an ouiji board, using a drinking glass for the pointer. She must have conjured up something because the chairs tipped over, the glass flew off the table and crashed against the wall. Then a green, demon looking face with red eyes and a yellow forked tongue moved around the walls and then disappeared."
- Arabesque
"I'd rather read a Left Behind book over a Harry Potter one anyday. But then again, that's just me. I'm a military person and I like books that are more realistic."
- Docpro
"Pokemon are slowly mesmerizing our children into believing that EVOLVING MONSTERS USE VIOLENCE AND POWER TO PREVAIL OVER THE UNIVERSE... Watch it for one show and you can see all the ways that it teaches children that overcoming others with violence is how to rule the earth."
- architectlink
"I gotta tell you that if you write a book claiming all the things the B[ook of ]M[ormon] claims and none of the claims outside the church founded by the author of the BM can be substantiated, the validity of the document is very suspect. This is down right fiction. Only a charlatan, liar, fraud, maniac or demon would write a book claim it to be a revelation of G-d and not be able to prove anything in the book."
- JimB

TheologyWeb - This forum isn't particularly busy or notable, but both J.P. Holding of Tektonics.org and Jonathan Sarfati of AnswersInGenesis post there, which makes for quite some laughs.

Highlights:

"I don't get it - he killed a baby killer. So? Why is everybody so upset with him?"
- seer, on Paul Hill's execution
"Everyone knows the 'Great Depression' was purposively created by the money trust to institute these communistic [welfare] programs. I don't love social security - exactly the opposite, I think it is sinful and theft - extreme wickedness... I consider Franklin Roosevelt as a Traitor with a capital T. He will go down in history with Benedict Arnold, Abraham Lincoln and Franklin D Roosevelt as the three largest and most notorius."
- Thomas2003
"Why? Because there has not yet been enough evidence for macroevolution presented. There has been sufficient evidence for the resurrection."
- spl_cadet
"I'd say if a thief causes people to starve, [cutting] a hand off is a merciful retort that keeps others alive."
- jpholding
"And you sir have lost all sense of perspective and common sense by claiming the extensive accounts of the creation and flood are metaphor and allegory."
- Socratism

In addition, there are many others on the web. Here are some of my other bookmarks:

Hope this helps.

Brights......................... So they want to lock me up in a zoo?!?!? Cool. The more persecution I get, the more Jesus rewards my heaven bank account. Praise God for persecution!!!

Seriously now, that sounds rediculous. I rather be stupid and insane than believe in a theory that is flawed at best. I could see the AC exalting this name of the brights and locking up and killing them in "zoos"

This is just so funny!!!

Great excerpts WinAce. The above is a perfect example of how some people who post to these sorts of boards can't keep their thoughts organized for the length of time it takes to type the sentence.
