"Sir Paul McCartney's cheap shot aimed at former President George W. Bush at a White House event on Wednesday has prompted House Minority Leader John Boehner to demand an apology from the Beatle.

McCartney literally gushed over President Obama throughout his East Room concert. “Getting this prize would just be good enough, but getting it from this president…” McCartney said letting his praise trail off as if there were vast volumes left unsaid."

I thought it was funny. No apology needed.

freedom of speech.

Generally people don't call for apologies because you said something illegal; they call for apologies because you said something inappropriate.

The "You Lie!" comment during Obama's address to Congress was certainly not illegal; it certainly was inappropriate and required an apology.
Even though Obama was lying. As usual.

Ah, a Beatle. One of the few people around who is less relevant than an ex-president. Let's hasten to find out his opinion on something! And while we're at it, what does Terence Trent d'Arby think of Obama? TT dA's at least twenty years closer in time to his peak fame and Obama's a current president, so I would guess that would be much more newsworthy.

Although, has anyone ever seen them together? Maybe they're the same person!!

Gushing over Obama is fine if that's what he wants to do but putting down Bush when he's in the White House to receive a non-political award? That's just inappropriate IMO. And he doesn't have the excuse of being too young to know better.

Ya know, it could just mean that he thinks Obama is a great president and Nobel Prize winner. Don't everybody try so hard to find something to be offended by.

Also he needs to apologize for the lyrics to Live and Let Die.

"But if this ever-changing world in which we live in..."

Makes me wonder if he was the one who taught Alannis Morisette the meaning of "ironic".
I was always under the impression it was "but if this ever changin' world in which we're living..."

But he should still apologise for the Frog Chorus, Mull of Kintyre, Silly Love Songs, Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime... continued page 94.

Exactly.

1. A Democrat
2. The first African American President
3. A Nobel Prize winner
4. A really good orator

Saying "this President" is no a slam at all to anybody else, but recognizes that Obama is fairly special as Presidents go.

It wasn't the good things he said about Obama that he's catching heat for but rather because he said something like, it's nice to finally have a President that knows what a library is. The exact quote is linked to in the OP.

ETA: The quote is "After the last eight years it's great to have a President who knows what a library is."

I always thought the lyric was "...in which we're livin'...".

The three lyric sites I checked all list it as you've written it, but that's a small and unreliable sample size. Did the album have liner notes, or is there an authoritative source?

There are some McCartney solo songs that I think are stinkers but I have to protest your inclusion of Silly Love Songs. I like it and plus it was fun of Paul to poke fun at himself for writing so many silly love songs in the first place.
