Concern over HIV homeopathy role

The Society of Homeopaths said it wanted to promote an open debate
Doctors and health charities have expressed concern about a conference which will examine the role of homeopathy in treating HIV.

The event includes discussion of what have been described as "healing remedies" for HIV and AIDS.

One of the speakers believes that the treatment, involving flower essences, can be used to halt the AIDS epidemic.

But the event, which marks World AIDS Day, has been criticised by doctors who say the treatment is not effective.

About 80 homeopaths and workers from HIV projects are gathering for the workshop in south London today.

'Ineffective'

It will include discussion about a remedy for HIV and AIDS which is said to have been used in Africa for five years.

BBC health correspondent, Jane Dreaper explained: "The principle behind homeopathy is that an ailment can be cured by small quantities of substances that produce the same symptoms but some doctors say it's ineffective."

Oh really? Just 'some' ?

The science at the BBC has really gone downhill recently. First global warming, now the rest of the pseudosciences.

The media in general is totally in the toilet, as near as I can tell.

Damn. Diamond beat me to it.

I was amazed at the tone of the article. I would have expected it from a news item in India not the Beeb. Looks like HRH the Prince of Wales has support

Sorry, off topic a bit, but I turned the Today programme on this morning when the cricket commentry went off long wave at about 09:50. David Colquone (spelling) was on with a homoeopath (Jane someone?). I only caught the end, but they were talking about the malaria treatment.

I presume it is available on listen again.

Dave

The BBC has seriously lost the scientific plot. I'm not the only one to think that.
