I'll be talking for the Bay Area Sketpics, CA USA, on the night of the 6th of Oct. For more information, see: http://www.baskeptics.org/

I'll also be appearing with Alynda as "The Mystery Investigators" in Christchurch New Zealand at the New Zealand Skeptics Convention on the 11th of Sept. For more information, see: http://www.skeptics.org.nz

How fortune turns...

Because of the impending hurricane in Florida, the launch of the Swift satellite might be delayed by a week. If it's delayed, I can make it to your talk!

Looks like I can be there!

Any other Bay Area (hey, "BA") skeptics care to join up? Girl 6?

Yeah, I think I can cruise on by to hear this. :)

I also have a commitment myself to deliver a speech on 10/8 up north in Sacramento (or Sack of Tomatoes to us more local people).

By the way, Girl6, you lost your status as stalker. You missed my Mt. Tam talk!

Looks like I have a position to fill.

Bump, due to the impending event tonight. I just talked to Eugenie Scott (she was a guest at TAMII and is a staunch anti-creationist), and she is hosting, so there is ample reason to attend!

Richard, you were great. I just wish there could have been more time to hear more from you and some of the other great educators, such as Phil Platt and Eugenie Scott, who were also there. 90 minutes just wasn’t enough time… If I hadn't seen them at TAM II, I might not have known what I was missing.

One thing that struck me is that promoters of paranormal hooey, creationism, and alternative medicine will always be able to output more media than skeptics can since the hooey hucksters can just make stuff out of thin air, which takes a lot less time and effort. A simple example of that was the “metaphysical bookstore,” which was just around the corner from the library where the Bay Area Skeptics meeting took place. There are no “skeptics bookstores” in the Bay Area, but there are quite a number of bookstores dedicated to soothing psychobabble , wishful thinking and potentially dangerous alternative medical nonsense.

Being a responsible educator and proactive skeptic takes a great deal careful research and I’m impressed with what the Australian skeptics have managed to do in this regard. I’d love to find more about what I can do proactively in the Bay Area to promote science, but some of the most important people to have on board are the people with the credentials to be taken seriously, a number of whom were present at the meeting and who are doing a great job.

Indeed, it was a good talk. Funny, and with that sense of Australian humor I'm coming to really enjoy. The stuff about the Yowie (the Aussie Bigfoot) was a real hoot!

Yes, the talk was fabulous! :D

Richard is not planning to go to TAM3, so I'm glad that I caught him here in the Bay Area. Richard was quite entertaining and well as informative. I learned a lot about what has been going on Down Under.

I also met a few other people from the JREF Forum that were there! It was a pleasure to meet them and I'm glad that this thread got them to go to the meeting.

Also, as a side note, we should all try to support our local Skeptic groups. :)
