These popular topics on this board may be more connected than you are aware. There was a provision in the Patriot Act preventing individuals from suing pharmaceutical companies for damages thought to be resulting from vaccinations. This was seen as being targeted at the autism-mercury-MMR vaccine link.

Now, the evidence is very strong (even overwhelming) that there is no link between vaccines and autism. The evidence is also strong that terrorist pose a threat to the USA. However, I find this to be PORK of the highest degree. While I believe there should be legitimate concerns about the intent of the Patriot Act (not to mention its Constitutionality), the inclusion of this "can't sue the Pharmas" stuff can only add fuel to the CT fire.

The can't sue pharma for vaccines law came about because of an over abundance of lawsuits that should have settled the matter over and over and over again.

To use that as "proof" about "big pharma" is not surprising, since those conspiracy folks actively ignore all the many many cases that lead to the resulting "enough is enough people" law.

It shouldn't fuel the fire because it has been proven over and over and over and over again that there is no basis for suing, but we all know that doesn't matter. What matters to antivaccinators is context, and they will take this law out of context and blow it up all over the place.

People would prefer to waste ever so much more time and money on suing "big pharma" instead of looking for real solutions. However, the courts have had enough for now.

I don't get the connection

The point I was trying to bring up was that there is no logical connection between autism and terrorism, and thus this addition to the legislation was nothing but Pork Barrel Politics.

An aide for Senator Frist was quoted in a Rolling Stone article (http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/7395411/deadly_immunity/
as saying that frivolous lawsuits have had such a negative financial impact on pharmaceutical companies that they would potentially be too financially crippled to be able to respond quickly and effectively to acts of bioterrorism. This link seems spurious, at best. It is my opinion that the inclusion of this provision in the Patriot Act is somewhat underhanded and spurs on two CTs:

1. Vaccination leads to Autism
2. The current administration, partly through the Patriot Act, is out to take away the basic rights of the citizenry, all in an effort to get cash into the hands of their buddies in big business.

i don't get the connection.

From an NPR broadcast a few years back, I think they drew the connection with fast-track approval of emergency vaccines for bioterrorism attacks. The unburdening of the producers of MMR from the autism claims would supposedly allow the production of smallpox, bird flu, anthrax, and any other vaccines on a large scale in response to a terrorist threat.
