The One is an Australian television program broadcast by Seven Network. Hosted by Andrew Daddo, The One pits several psychics together by participating in trials which challenge their abilities in psychic activities such as clairvoyance, telepathy and mediumship to determine who is Australia's top psychic.[1]

The psychics abilities are put to the test under the watchful eye of a studio audience or on external locations. The psychics abilities are judged by a two-person panel including Stacey Demarco, a psychic and metaphysician, and Richard Saunders, vice president of Australian Skeptics.[2]

Soon the new series of "The One" is starting on Australian TV. Do skeptics belief the TV show itself it full of bollocks, or just the Psychics on the show trying to prove their abilities? I for one am pretty keen to see what they can do, i didn't watch the last series. But since skeptics believe there to be no such thing as psychics at all, all frauds and that. Would you say the TV show directors and everyone working behind it, are frauds too?

How about deluded or don't care as long as the ratings are good?

Fraud is a possibility for some of those involved.

It's a TV show. If they want to have an audience, they need to at least hint that some of the "psychics" are real. Continual debunking doesn't make for good TV.

Ahhh...yet ANOTHER Reality TV show.....Whatever happened to good ol' fashioned entertainment ???I guess that costs too much these days,so..dish up some woo woo !:(

Good to see Richard Saunders still in there.

I wouldn't be surprised if the people working on the show were a mixture of believers and skeptics. There are a lot of superstitious nutters working in the TV business. There are also some smart people.

I should get in touch with my mate Joe the Cameraman and ask him...

If you heard Richard Saunders talk about it. It's a fix, most shows go over eight hours of filming nice amount for the editors to pick up on the hits and miss the misses.

In my mind the producers are neither lying or telling the truth. They're BSing

When you tell the truth, you say things that you know to be true
When you lie, you say things that you know to be false
When you BS, you do not care whether the things you say are lies or the truth

The producers of the show are after two things, RATINGS.
The higher the ratings the bigger the advertising DOLLAR.
The last series according to Richard was heavily edited, as it would be, being an hour show with plenty of advertisements. The psychics were shown in the best light. They incidently were completely hopeless. Only a completely and hopelessly deluded believer would think they were ridgy didge.

Ok, we have different opinions on skeptics. You took the bait ;)

If the show is a FIX, then the skeptic worker on it, FIXES any real tests, the Australian skeptic community do. so NOONE will ever take their money. And saying you are a dishonest person. WORST then psychics in my opinion since your the skeptic trying to influence other skeptics, for no reason at all, unless to get played themselves.

If the show is real. The Australian Skeptic has to admit, he is no longer a skeptic. Only and IF the show produces a winner, or any actually challenges with results that show evidence.

If that happens, JREF Million dollars is gone. Just like that. The show will outline all protocols and such. The Psychic can just use the same way done on the show, to claim the million dollars.

Since you have your opinions already, some of you may believe the above already. Now just to see if one psychic can prove his or her's ability :)

Damn you post-count-for-links thing.

But anyway - here is some skeptical analysis of the previous incarnation of this show.

Please provide evidence that the australian skeptic community fix any tests.

Do you live in the same Universe as the rest of us?

Any chance you could have someone correct your grammar in your post? I get the feeling you are trying to communicate something but i'm not sure what it is. :boggled:

Assuming, just for the sake of it, that psychics actually exist: How would finding a real psychic stop someone from being a skeptic?

You have obviously gone walkabout.

The JREF sets the tests for the Million Dollar Challenge. While they might use the media exposure from the show as justifying testing for the MDC, they will not use any testing procedure other than one that is carefully double-blinded and will provide unequivacable results. They're very good at this because they're not in it to draw viewers and advertisers.

I fixed your link. This is Richard giving his analysis of one of the top 4 psychics in Australia. Result I do not believe she has psychics. Reason - it took 5 minutes to get 7 guesses (out of about 38 guesses right). All the hits would be hits on many such people (you know a Barry, you have two kids).
