Abbott made a fool of himself, a simple setup reveals his rhetoric for the empty bluster it truly is. His approval is lower than Gillard's. Libs will win the next election, but they will only do so after trashing the democratic system and parliament. Hope they enjoy that taste of sawdust in their mouths.

You mean when he tried to abscond? I laughed so hard. Bloody Christopher Pyne, he is the bane of my freaking existence.

I can't believe the heat that the Liberals have managed to pour onto Labor, though. It's really quite astounding that they could be so well poised considering that our economy is just jolly despite, you know, the world flipping out.

Question: do you guys enjoy having the Greens as influential as they are?

The Libs will almost certainly win, but they will break the mould by being a one term parliament.

I think Sarah Hanson-Young is damned funny when she does a press conference. She looks like she might belt someone at any moment.

Other than that I think since the demise of the Democrats (is that what they were called - it's been so long) they've filled the vacuum quite well.

I think the Greens have peaked. They might have gained traction if they had better candidates.

They have achieved their carbon tax objective. But, no I'm not satisfied with their performance. A party with 10% support? Crap.

Yeah but aren't they just "keeping the bastards honest" like the Democrats used to do? I mean, I don't think anyone expects them to seriously challenge for government but they are there for a reason aren't they?

I'm pretty sure you've nailed the reason that they have the support that they do, although I think their focus is too narrow for them to be as good as the Democrats were at the job when they weren't fighting with each other.

True. And public perception is that all they do is environment stuff.

But I think that once AGW starts impacting their vote will go up. Not by much though and by then the major parties will have changed their tune on the environment anyway.

Either way, I'm glad to have a 'left' party in there doing things that's actually left rather than centre and pretending to be left.

They absolutely can get re-elected, but I can't see it happening. That annoys me greatly. The GFC save should've meant a default re-election.

Damn right, but that's the swing of the Greens.

Next election, with the ALP now supporting marriage equality and other issues the Greens supported last election, the Greens will do less well. There's less reason to go with an 'alternative'. Unhappiness with the two major parties might ameliorate that, though.

I stopped watching QT because it seemed to get less entertaining once Harry Jenkins resigned the speakership (or was forced out or whatever). But now it looks like there's a lot of ridiculous fun to be had. I should try to catch up.

I miss old man Jenkins, too. :(

Yesterday, I watched this for nostalgia's sake:

I hate Bronwyn Bishop, but that wasn't half bad.

The thought of Abbott having complete power like the Libs have in Queensland now keeps me up at night. The one thing I'll say about the hung parliament is that it has gotten people thinking a bit more about politics.
