Audio on my computer is running at 1/2 speed

I just updated Win XP, rebooted the system and now my audio is slow and distorted. Anyone have any recommendations for fixing this? I tried searching on the net and Win help, but it was of little use.

See if there's a setting for the clock speed. I use a sound card that has digital inputs, and I get the very problem you describe if it's set to lock in on the incoming digital signal, instead of the internal clock speed.
For my sound card, I go to it's control panel, then click the "hardware settings" tab, then under "master clock" make sure the "Internal Xtal" button is checked. Your's may have a similar setting.

The upgrade may have also wiped the correct driver. What sort of sound card/chip is it? You may fix it by just downloading the driver from the manufacturers web site.

AUP has it: R&R driver. XP can install wrong or outdated drivers. Dig out the original CD or download the driver off the internet.

(Dumb question: ALL sound files, or certain ones?)
