Hey all!

Well, I'm well on my way to start my own minature gaming bases podcast! I"m looking into a the various pieces of equipment I'll need (mixing board, mics, and pc-audio inputs), I bought a copy of "Podcasting For Dummies" to help, and I downloaded Audacity. Now, I'm an amatuer audio production newbie so I think I'm going to need a little help figure out who to use audacity. After playing around with it last night, I can figure out how to record, playback, and do some basic editing. What I think I'll need help with is how to splice in other audio tracks (intro/exit music, recorded segments, ads--if I decide to sell ad space, etc.) into the main recording.

Does anyone know of any tutorials or books I could check out to give me an idea on how to do all this. I don't plan on starting for at least a couple of months, but I'l like to get a feel for this program ASAP.

You could get a Cubase or a Soundforge book, it would cover the basics even though the software is different.

Or check the Audacity website.

Audacity is easy to use. :)

You can achieve most of what you want by:

Position the cursor where you want to insert/splice new audio.

Split the channel.

You've now got two tracks where before you had one. One track with the audio before the cursor, and one with the audio after the cursor.

Move the audio from the second channel. Move it to the right, creating a gap.

Move the new audio (in its own track) into position in this gap.

Done!

If you need specific instructions on how to do any of that, just ask. I think the help file or the web site has tutorials, but I can guide you if need be.
