According to www,cnn.com, he has been hospitalized and is in the ICU with acute pancreaticis (sic.) brought on apparently by Gallstones migrating from the Gallbadder to the pancreas. It is apparently a very serious and painful condition.

I am no fan of Ashcroft and believe him to be one of the bigger threats to Civil Liberties in this country, but having gone through the joy of gallbladder pain (think of every muscle from your lower abdomen along your right side and behind your shoulder being slowly pulled in half) I can't bring myself to say anything bad about him.

However if anyone else would like too....:p

This just in:
Heaven has just released a statement confirming that Attorney General John Ashcroft's condition is the result of divine punishment.

The statement refused to elaborate upon the offense for which Attorney General Ashcroft was being punished, except to say that the offense was "serious" and that Ashcroft was well aware that his actions were contrary to the "desires and goals of the Almighty."

"It is hoped that this corrective action will result in the rectification of the prior actions, and that further corrective action will be unnecessary," the statement concluded.

Dear Jesus, holy be thy name, I beseech you in the name of good to kill your servant John David Ashcroft, and to lift him up to heaven, so that he may bask in your glory for-ever and ever.

Nothing like people wanting other people to die, you got to love humanity.

What's wrong with thinking that, since he loves God and Jesus so much, he should finally have the rare privilege of being welcomed into their bosoms?

Heck, I didn't even express a desire to see him in hell (which, by the way, is exactly where he would think I was going).

You still want him dead because you disagree with him, that's what's wrong with it. I realize this is mostly a joke, but I think there's enough truth in what you saying for it to be sad.

How old is Ashcroft? And who is paying for this?

He's 61. Federal employees have an excellent health insurance plan.

As someone who has expressed a desire to see certain political figures killed, I can say that is not the case. Disagreement is one thing, but when a leader or figure advocates or pursues a policy that infringes on personal liberties in an invasive and tyrannical manner, I see nothing wrong with desiring that that leader die.

As long as they're draped in fabric first. God and Jesus may be the ultimate Divinity, but Ashcroft has moral standards to uphold, dang it!

Well I disagree, if you truly believe a member of the leadership is doing harm to the country you can always campaign against them or support someone else’s campaign against just to wish someone death accomplishes nothing.

I think Ashcroft is a terrible attorney general.

That said, I would not want anyone to go what he's going through.

Wait just a minute.

Ashcroft believes in Jesus. Ashcroft believes he gets to go to Heaven when he dies. Heaven is a wonderful, magical place of many-eyed angels and big jasper thrones.

I certainly wouldn't kill the man, as I am not violent, but if his Own Personal Deity, with whom he regularly converses, wishes to take him into his arms and get him off this planet, I'm all for it. I don't want him dead because I disagree with him. I want him gone because he and his ilk not only think that I'm going to hell, but that I shouldn't even be considered a citizen of my native land.

Another prayer from a friend: Lord, we pray that your post-operative staph infection move swift and true. Let your gentle hand, and the hand of your glorious Son, guide your blessed bacteria into his heart. Dear Lord, hear our prayer.

I think Attorney General would find it a privilege to die, assuming this could be fatal, not only because he would ascend to heaven (so he thinks), but he would die easily without having to worry about being maintained artifically for a prolonged amount of time, yet wanting to die, the right he took from the people of Oregon.

Just a point of order, not to derail the thread. I am a Federal Employee and while I have health insurance, I pay a good chunk of cash for it (married folk with families pay even more) out of every paycheck and while I have no comparison to other insurances offered, I consider my coverage good but not necessairly excellent.

You may now return to the only man to lose a Senate race to a Dead person......

I suffered from an acute attack of pancreatitis a bit more than a year ago. The amount of pain involved is more than I could have considered possible before that. They shot me full of morphine, the first time I've ever had it, and it didn't put a dent in the pain, although fortunately it made it possible for me to become unconscious a little. I got a clipping from one of those newspaper docs who describes the pain as "truly horriffic," and I can't say I disagree.

I really hate Ashcroft, but I wouldn't wish that even on him.

My wife recently had a gallstone problem, though it did not escalate to pacreatitis.

While I certainly wish Ashroft to be removed from office and forced to live on the streets amid brothels on crack-fiends, I would not wish for physical pain of that magnitude on him.
