At his sentencing hearing, Ariel Castro claims -- in front of Michelle Knight! --that he maintained a "home full of harmony" with his victims, that he never hurt them, and sex with them was consensual. He says he's a victim of childhood abuse and asks for forgiveness. The judge is now explaining the legal definition of "sexually violent predator."

I am against the death penalty, but for this guy I'd make an exception.

1000 years minimum + life without parole.

Normally, I'm opposed to unusual sentencing, put this was actually doled out 10 years at-a-time. There's no question that this offense does not merit 100-10 year concurrent sentences.

Apparently my brain cells aren't fully functioning this morning cuz I'm not sure what you're saying. You think this sentence was too harsh?

I think he/she's saying that serving them concurrently (which would amount to only 10 years in 'real' time) would NOT be appropriate, but that serving them consecutively (one after the other) is just desserts.

I doubt he'd last 1 year in Prison much less 10, because he's going to be popular with a lot of prison gangs.

With the understanding that consecutive sentencing is too often abused in the judicial system. This isn't one of those cases, though.

Well, if that is what Castro has to say in court, then I expect that he will either die in prison or have to complete his full sentence because with an attitude like that, he will never be granted parole.

Is there a reason for such a long sentence? I mean it's not like he'll survive even 10% of it.

I'm sure it's "cruel and unusual punishment" but maybe he should live in prison like his victims lived in real life.

That's right folks, rape is OK! and should be encouraged when it's a punishment!

His sentence, which he accepted in order to avoid a possible death penalty, is life without parole plus 1000 years. There is no question that he will die in prison. The question is how long it will take.

That wouldn't be legal. But you could put him in solitary confinement forever "for his own protection" (which might actually be necessary).
