Are You Ready For A Petaflop?

Which raises the need for more prefixes, since we are left with only exaflop, zettaflop and yottaflop ;)
 
The eighties made 1-d computation feasible and commonplace (word processing, etc.).

The nineties made 2-d computation feasible and commonplace (multimedia, Open GL and Direct X).

With any luck, the naughties will make 3-d computation feasible and commonplace (volume visualization, etc.).
 
The speedy machine is part of an ambitious project to expand the horizons of supercomputing, with the ultimate goal of creating a system that can perform 1 quadrillion calculations per second, or one petaflop.

I saw a large fat man dive into the water from 20 feet in the air, it was the greatest bellyflop I've ever seen performed...

They've added on zetta now, so we should be good for another five years. :D

I personally wanted to see them adopt the proposal to use the Marx Brothers' names...
