I've overheard some conversations between some friends of mine about an even that goes like this:
"Once, there was this guy who was so adavant (I think that's how it's spelled...) that vaccines were not harmful that he had vaccinated two of his sons on stage in front of an audience. Shortly afterwards, they both have died."
I couldn't find the original article, story or whatever that recites this event (let alone the name of this man or his sons, or the date of this event) but I think I found something close to it. While reading this old Wired article:

I found this particular paragraph near the bottom of the page:
Now, I can't find any information on Offit's two children...at least not on the wikipedia article. So, can anyone here offer their input on this story or any information about Offit's two children? Cause, if my friend's story IS about Offit's two children AND they both have their hearts ticking, well then I might have something to show my friends.

Risk is also the motivating idea in Offit’s life. This is a man, after all, who opted to give his own two children — now teenagers — the flu vaccine before it was recommended for their age group. Why? Because the risk of harm if his children got sick was too great. Offit, like everyone else, will do anything to protect his children. And he wants Americans to be fully educated about risk and not hoodwinked into thinking that dropping vaccines keeps their children safe. “The choice not to get a vaccine is not a choice to take no risk,” he says. “It’s just a choice to take a different risk, and we need to be better about saying, ‘Here’s what that different risk looks like.’ Dying of Hib meningitis is a horrible, ugly way to die.”
