On Discovery channel. Pretty cool show as they conduct experiments to either support or deem highly unlikely popular urban legends. I was a little disappointed in reading the hosts bios that neither are scientists (both come from special effects business), but they do a good job.

mythbusters

It is a good show.

I really don't think being a scientist has to do with anything.

No? You don't think being a scientist has anything to do with conducting scientific experiments? Ok...

The show is fun to watch, but I don't feel they truley prove or disprove the myths with their experiments. Just a good excuse to blow things up if you ask me.

Actually, I've found this particular show is great at debunking silly urban legends. I took their test. I didn't think anyone actually died after trying to shake stuff out of a vending machine, and I didn't know someone's pet snake killed him. I got 60 out of 80 :)

I love it. I kinda wonder what they did with the big fake butt afterwards.

I flipped back and forth with other channels the one night I watched it but it's a good show that along with the Urban Legends show on MTV are at least getting the skeptical message out.

And what is the skeptical message?

Don't believe it without evidence, and... sometimes, really weird stuff is true!

Why don't you ask Randi. Ok... ?

They are conducting experiments, period. I see no need to prefix it with the word "scientific", and then conclude that because they aren't scientists that that is disappointing.

Afterall, in the 'Do you get wetter running in rain or walking?' episode, the Mythbusters sound results were in direct conflict with results obtained by some scientists.

Hey! You have to give us the source of the scientists' conflicting results. Otherwise we have to think you are making that up :p

That's like asking me to tell you the brand of shoes the guys were wearing that episode, and then complaining when I say "I dunno".

Watch the Mythbusters episode, or contact them somehow.

The exploding CDs were very cool, although before they blew, they were warping to a degree I don't think would be possible inside a drive. Something must have been wrong with the setup, because there's no way a drive could be causing that kind of bend in the CD and still read it. Still, seeing the shards embedded deep into the ballistic dummy was surprising.

I want to have that job. It looks like a lot of fun.

Nah, don't have time. I'll just choose to wonder what scientists had conflicting data compared to the mythbusters, and wonder what kind, and if they are actually scientists at all:p

I like the show, but I guess I'm a little jaded by snopes. I keep wanting them to go ahead and get to the point already, which is that no, your car won't explode if you get back in it while you're pumping gas. I don't need to see 42 tests to confirm that.

I liked when they experimented with ice and meat bullets though.

I have that episode on tape, and if you wish, I can dig it out and get you the names of the two scientists they interviewed.

Well, even if your CD/DVD drive does get up to that speed where the disc destroys itself, you're probably in safe enough shape--the drive is inside the computer. I doubt it would do damage to the computer beyond the drive itself. Hey! Someone get me an old POS computer with a CD-ROM! Let's do an experiment! :D

That would be great! And their findings that contradict mythbusters too please. I don't even know the mythbuster findings.

So if you could let us know what mythbusters says, and then what the scientists said-would be much appreciated!

Then we can look up the scientists and see where they are coming from
