• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

Anyone know anything about Protandim?

Just bumping it.

Would like some critical examination of it by those who have a better understanding of the subject. :)

Well, you had to toss in the "better understanding" part, didn't you?

The following is, of course, both ad hominem and guilt by association, but nonetheless: the Google article on the subject says that the maker settled a lawsuit by a competitor which is endorsed by Deepak Chopra.

Sorry, but my bogometer just pinned. And bent the needle.

Go read the wikipedia, it clearly just another natural supplement, but with a major MLM marketing force behind it. The data supporting the claims of the company are inconclusive as best. Better to just eat your fruits and veggies if you want antioxidants.

Yeah, I was after an analysis of the actual papers used to support their claims - ie: The problems and limitations of the study

Couple links for you...

Original articles (half are freely available!):
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=protadim

Note that the one article that doesn't include McCord's name in the author list is a review article, and from the same group of authors... AFAIK there has been no independent replication of any of their reports. Of course that alone isn't reason to discount research, but it should make you wary.

More to the point, some critiques:
http://quackfiles.blogspot.com/2005/07/protandim-claims-debunked.html (early critique)
http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/index.php/protandim-another-kind-of-antioxidant/ (same author as the first critique, after the clinical study was done)
http://tonyc.com/protandim/ (TONS of links for further reading)

Their methods and data interpretation aren't exactly the worst I've seen... but I'm afraid I'm not familiar enough with the details to be terribly helpful beyond that. Those others seem to do a decent job of explaining the problems though
