Anyone in Japan?

I don't know if anyone here is a resident of Japan as I am, but I'd be open towards gatherings in the future to discuss skeptical issues, especially involving the plentitude of quack healing, nutjob groups, and new regions in the country.

There's a couple of us in and around Tokyo. I'm only here for another month or so, though.

ETA: I see you're in Ibaraki, which means I don't need to ask where you live. I think Voob lives up there, though he hasn't posted in awhile.

Thanks for the info. I'm actually about as close to Tokyo as you can be in Ibaraki. (I can drive there in an hour or so.)

Follow up question... Are there any Japanese-language based skeptic societies? I'd like to involve my girlfriend, who knows zero English.

It wouldn't surprise me if there are some sceptic societies (I think I even saw a sceptic on tv once! But I may have been dreaming), but I am unaware of them. Everyone from the JREF board that I've met in Tokyo (myself included) speaks at least pretty good Japanese, if that helps.

I'm suprised ol' Kimpatsu hasn't popped his head in here yet.

I'm one of the above mentioned people, and I've actually just moved closer to Tokyo. I'm hoping we can have another get together before summer ends, but since I bailed on the last one, maybe the other guys won't invite me again....

Loon, you're leaving? Say it ain't so! And what's this "pretty good Japanese" nonsense?! We speak great Japanese! :D

Wonder if Voob is still in Japan? Did he make it to the last get-together? And Smoove, last time I was there Voob brought his GF (wife?), so I don't see why you couldn't bring yours (assuming we have another meeting.)

Take it slow with the skeptic talk though. You're fighting against her whole lifetime of being raised in Japan.

Meh, she's OK. She's a fresh 19 and never gave serious thought to such issues in one way or the other. She has the typical irrationalities (such as sleeping facing north) that she won't give up, but she understands the reasons she feels the way about such things. She didn't freak out when I told her we had been sleeping towards the north for weeks on purpose, or when I explained to her why her diet wasn't going to work.

Anyway, we'll see... She is attending her grandfather's after-funeral in Akita next month so I won't be bringing anything like this up with her then. Sometimes you have to care enough to allow traditional mourning without confrontation.
