I am watching a film that has some scenes filmed on an aircraft. The internal layout of the plane is interesting. It has a 2 by 2 seating arrangement but with a small horseshoe shaped lounge for passengers to stretch out during the flight at the back of the cabin

Was this feature real in long haul aircraft of the time, or simply an invention by the film makers. The particular plane is flying from LA to Hawaii, and is a 4 engine prop airplane.

Thanks in advance for satsifying my blind curiosity lol

Well thank you both, that satisfied a curiosity I didn't even know I had :) And to think I only looked at the thread because I read 'buffs' as a gaming term...

Thanks for the replies. The DC 6 is definately the plane in the film. But the other planes are equally amazing.

I remember very vaguely the flying boats out at Rose Bay, my mother and father went on their honeymoon in 1961 in one

I have a vague memory that modified "Short Sunderlands" also took off from Rose Bay. (I'm from Mosman and my dad was a hobby aircraft spotter)

Matt,

They were Shorts Sandringhams which were the civilian version of the Sunderland.

Ansett operated them out to Lord Howe Island until the mid seventies.
