Anti-Science Terrorism

Yeah, the registration-wall thing really cheeses me. Recently the Kansas City Star's page has been doing it to non-users or users not logged in too, and they didn't do that until recently. Boo!

Why would PETA be against researching the mammalian brain. What a bunch of arsehats.

The researchers were David Feldheim, and someone else remained unnamed. David is studying the development of neural connections with regards to vision. Plays with mice. I guess PETA can save the mice by firebombing homes? Fraccin maroons.

ELF? Who are they. *googles*

I'm not finding them. Just something about elves and some kind of language fund.

Animal protesters. Im sorry PETA was a little bit of editorializing on my part but I do believe their is a tenuous connection between PETA and ELF. ELF is if I remember correctly actually listed as a terrorist organization.

Earth liberation front. Standard fare for that group. They will destroy anything and threaten anyone they feel is helping to destroy the environment. They've destroyed car lots full of SUVs. They've burnt down houses that were in the process of being built. Im fairly certain someone almost lost their lives in that incident.

How do you destroy the environment by studying the brain though?
Bad description on my part. It's not just the environment but anyone who "abuses" animals is also fair game to them. Your asking sane logical questions but the problem is that these people are not sane or logical.

I hope they catch the arsehats and use them for research, the kind that is not as humane as what they do to mice in labs. You can't study the brain using amoebas.

Actually this is either a small independent bunch of scum or a subgroup called the Animal Liberation Front(ALF) that is closely associated with ELF. ALF is like many more radical animal rights" groups. However unlike just protesting, ALF are known to break into labs to release animals(nevermind the disease that may be released), perform vandalism, threaten researchers and have been known to attack them as well.

Police and FBI are looking closely at Stop Animal Exploitation Now! (SAEN).

Here's a newspaper article on it:

If the well-being of mice is the problem, housecats should be the primary target. They're not natural, and mice aren't their only victims. Kill all the housecats and then we can get onto the scientific expriment issue.

A shortcut would be to kill most of the housecats and do the experiments on the rest Until we've learned enough and can expunge them too.

ALF will be searching for our addresses next. Eeeeeeeep :boxedin:

I did animal research in a university when I was doing some grad work and the entire place was locked down to prevent any nuts from trying break in.

Walking past those protesters and being called a murderer was amusing. I've already dealt with them. Some of my professors were threatened. Of course when I started doing research later in a smaller non-university site, no one bother me at all despite the scale in research being about the same.

They are terrorist and cowards. They target the larger schools and most well known individuals while ignoring the much larger number of not as well known researchers out there. They also tend to attack in their home turf, mostly college towns and never venture out into other places.

I don't get how these idiots don't have something better to do. They watch too much disney and figure mice are dreaming of the wild blue yonder all day long? Pfft. Those mice have much worse things to deal with in the wild (like cats and birds). They don't live in reality, that's for sure. I guess there's not enough of them to worry about most of the time, it's just another reason to wonder about humanity though. I bet most of them have benefitted from just such research in one way or another. Diabetes 1 research depended on dogs at one time, and in much worse conditions than they would have had nowadays.

Should make them all watch many reels of Lorne Greene's New Wilderness over and over again, especially the ones where the lions take down bambis all day long.

Basically they are terrorists who need to be found , be tied up, big rocks attached and thrown into pristine lakes - so they not only die but pollute the lake in the process. PETA supports them and is only marginally less evil.

This was on David Feldheim's site...

"For example, they have found that a class of axon guidance molecules called ephrins, combined with neural activity dependant processes are all that is required to make a topographic map. Feldheim's group is currently trying to understand both the mechanisms by which ephrins and neural activity act together to direct axon guidance in the visual system."

To make a topographic map? Of what? Why is it so important to be able to use ephrins and neural activity to be able to create a topographic map?

Why don't you go read up on the significance of it and come back and tell us? Argument from Ignorance from INRM, not surprising at all.

That’s not even Argument from Ignorance. He didn’t even seem to understand the sentence.
