Another gun anecdote

It seems like it's been a while since we've seen one posted, so here's one: Story
George Kallas didn't have any trouble getting a gun.

He strode calmly into a gun shop Tuesday on Ohio 57 and breezed through an instant background check, before returning a short time later because his ammunition was too large for his gun.

Then he shot and killed his wife of 40 years, police say.

Barbara Kallas, 57, was in the parking lot of Lorain library's main branch, where she worked, when she was shot five times. Lorain County Coroner Paul Matus said a bullet pierced her heart.

In the days before, the couple had argued about her job as a library assistant. George Kallas thought it was an unsafe place and wanted her to quit, according to a police report.

Lorain police confiscated three rifles and a .38-caliber Special from Kallas the day of the fight but did not charge him for pushing down his wife. She didn't want them to, according to police. Instead, she said she would stay with a relative.
More here.

- Man fights with wife, claiming that her workplace is unsafe - then shoots her at her workplace.

- Police confiscate man's guns fearing for wife's safety - but man just goes out and buys another one and shoots her that same day.

- Murder takes place in front of multiple witnesses, man tells police "I shot my wife," and then pleads not guilty in court.

A sad, sad story riddled with irony.

In a thigh holster??

Somehow the thought of a heavily armed Librarian letting rip across the non-fiction section with a pair of pistols, makes the 11 pence a day late return fine seem a little tame.

There is a stupid provision in the Ohio CCw law that prohibits carry into any goverment building. The library was a public library, so the librarian would be prohibited by law from carrying there, and would have had to lock her gun in her car before walking to work unarmed.

See how stupid anti-gun laws cost people their lives.

Yeah, that silly librarian....she wasn't smart enough to carry a gun. I suppose when a baby gets shot and killed, the NRA will be telling us that the baby should have been carrying a gun.

In a library the hardware would need to be equipped with silencers of course.

"In a library the hardware would need to be equipped with silencers of course."

Well, at least they are legal to own and use in Ohio. But even a suppressed pistol is going to put out a muzzle blast greater than 100 decibels. It will be plenty loud enough to get everyone’s attention in the library. Unless it is a Hollywood library.

Hey zaker, couldn't you find any "defending the home or family" anecdotes?

Silencers for handguns are movie fiction. The term is "noise suppressor" and it allows you to shoot the pistol without earplugs on.

You have to get a special ATF-been-up-your-ass permit to obtain one.

Not quite that bad. Go see the complaints on the www.subguns.com web board and compare the complaints about the local sheriff who has to sign off form 1's and 4's to allow making or transfer verses the ATF. No one likes the ATF on subguns, but the locals give owners more headaches it seems. I was lucky, the local sheriff here in Mason county sign off thrree forms for me so far.

Ah, the bureau of Alcohol, Tobbaco, and Firearms.

Does anybody know how it got its name? I mean, it's not as if there's the bureau of Vodak, snuff, and dynamite, or a bureau of prostitution, gambling, and strippers, is there?

Don't knock it. I think that to prevent more school massacres, all schoolchildren should be armed.

I wouldn't have a problem with the American (probably a small percentage) attitude of gun ownership if they also had some form of universal healthcare to tend to the wounded. We seem to focus way too much on the fatalities.

And they HAVE to take and pass the "Guns Are My Friend" and "How to Recognise and Shoot a Bad Guy Before He Sees You" courses by the time they can graduate to junior high. Then it's on to "Short Arms Range", "Long Arms Range", "Automatics and Submachineguns", and "Protecting Yourself Properly in the Shcoolyard" for junior high.

Then all they need do is get rid of all those highly expensive and unnecessary metal detectors at schools, and all those stupid rules about kids carrying in school.

I'd suggest a trial run be done at Columbine High...

And, I should add: [/extreme-sarcasm]

Official Announcement.

I'M DONE WITH GUN THREADS.

I thought when I joined this forum over a year ago that I would be able to have a "reasonable" discussion with people on this forum about this subject, but it has invariably degenerated into a stupid slanging match, usually at the expense of anyone taking any notice of the readily available data on the subject that contradicts their views.

No more.

My head is way too soft to keep on banging it against this wall any longer.

Goodbye, gun threads.

Try the Israel/Palestine anti-semitism threads - they're good if you want a quiet life.;)

It must be terrible living in a place where you feel the need to own firearms for protection.

I'd move.

You are right, it does suck. I bought my first pistol in Norfok VA back in 1988 when a man was shot near my apartment. I now live in a nice quiet place near Bremerton WA. The gun collection is much larger now. Of course they are all locked up in the safes except for my carry piece. These days I carry (CCW) because I can, not because I fear for my life.
