Nevada governor Jim Gibbons went to the National Governors Conference in Washington with his girlfriend. A local Reno news crew was at the airport to welcome him home.

I'm not sure which is worse. The lack of morals, or the lack of intelligence which allows these idiots to think that they can get away with stuff like this. Didn't it occur to them to come home on separate flights?

How does his bimbo rate transportation in a state-owned vehicle while he is still legally married to someone else? What other perks of the First Lady is the bimbo getting?

How does his bimbo...
Is there any woman mentioned in any way in American politics that Lefty does not think is a "bimbo" or a "slut"?

I was listening to some NPR program last night - I think it was This American Life. The program was about the removal of homosexuality from the DSM. One point really stuck in my brain - back while they were working on this there was a study done on prevalence of homosexuality, and it found that 37% of men had had same sex sexual contact leading to orgasm at least once in the life. The argument was that this pretty much by definition made it normal behavior. Not something we should vilify, but accept as human behavior.

Whereas infidelity is what, 50% or something?

Gotta go with Newtons here. So long as she wasn't traveling on the State's dime, I don't see the issue. Even if she was, seems like a minor thing. Make one of them reimburse the expense and everything is square.

I too fail to see the importance here.

NPR's "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" speculated how long it would take before "Hiking the Appalachian Trail" became part of the lexicon....

On the face of it, such indiscretions seem to be part and parcel of being in a position of power and authority.
I wonder, though.... What percentage of men (I'll confine this to males as they seem to be the primary transgressors) "stray". Pretty high, I'd think, considering the failure rate of marriage in general.
Do men in positions of power indulge in more hanky-panky than say...Plumbers?
Is it as much a case of opportunity? ("Going on another fact-finding mission, honey, see you in a week!"
Is it part and parcel of the personality type that seeks power? The "silverback" idea?
(head monkey gets all the chicks)
I've noted before that fellows who we might describe as cult leaders often take advantage of their position to have their way with the female followers....

Probably the best explanation. Certainly, the one to which Edwards subscribed in accounting for himself.

Power also makes a man a desireable mark to women of loose morals. This accounts for the number of women like Monica Lewinski and Gibbons' bit of eye candy.

Actually, power makes a man desireable to women, period. Some -- indeed, many -- women prefer powerful men. Just like most men prefer beautiful women; would you say only men of "loose morals" prefer young and beautiful women to old and ugly women?

Like most of us, I don't have much power or influence, nor do I "get the women" -- but I don't feel the need I have to insult every woman who does find powerful men attractive as a "bimbo" or a "slut" just because she prefers somebody more powerful than myself, because she doesn't recognize just how great I am inside. (Er... no pun intended.) That's just the male equivalent of a woman saying a man is "stupid" or "shallow" for preferring a woman more beautiful than herself. It smacks of bitterness and jealousy.

Tom Lehrer long ago parodied this attitude in the introduction to one of his songs, noting that we all have these songs when a woman sings that, although her lover is poor... physically repulsive... and completely disgusting in every way... she still loves him, not like those shallow and morally loose women who prefer rich and handsome men for some reason.

Yeah, but the bimbos are more likely to act out their fantasies, and Republican horndogs are more likely to publicly humiliate their wives by cavorting openly with the bimbos, maybe kick their wives to the curb like that sick old creep who used to run New York and hang out with sleazy old Bernie Kerick.
