News conference on right now, because there was a body cam video, the prosecutor is indicting a University of Cincinnati police officer for murder for shooting a man in the head after a "chicken crap" traffic stop.

1:20 p.m. UPDATE: "He purposely killed him." Prosecutor Joe Deters about UC officer Ray Tensing in Sam DuBose's shooting death. "He should never have been a police officer."

Deters says his office reviewed hundreds of police shootings. "This is without question a murder," Deters said.

The news media censored the kill shot, I'll have to wait for the video to be available elsewhere.

And Mark O'Mara's there talking about racism causing these kind of police reactions. Reminds me of the OJ defense attorneys going out of their way to counter their image they got a murderer off.

I'm sure the usual defenders will be along to explain why this victim needed to die.

I wonder whether this indictment would have happened before #BlackLivesMatter? Maybe now that city officials are terrified of race riots justice is starting to be administered? Who ever said that tearing **** up isn't worthwhile?

If they DON'T give him the maximum punishment for his crime, I'll be sorely disappointed. This is a clearly racist shooting.

You may be wrong, I have not seen all the evidence, but so far I think the officer should do some serious time. 15 to life sounds about right.

I'm interested in the highlighted part. Are you saying OJ was guilty?

I haven't begun to delve into this. Can you relate what makes it clearly racist and beyond mere criminal stupidity?

Knee-jerk feeling after reading the articles, I apologize. The posted one above says he was pulled over for an expired tag; he leaned across his passenger seat and the officer shot him in the head.

Unless it turns out the vic had a gun, either on the seat or in his glove box, I can't understand why the cop even had his gun out in the first place. It may not be racist - as you say - but simply criminally stupid. But that won't stop people from screaming racism, especially if the cop is found not guilty.

No apology needed!

I found this but it's pretty devoid of info.

"After Tensing asks him if his license is suspended, a short scuffle ensues. A few seconds later, Dubose is shot in the head while still behind the wheel of a car."

Why the scuffle?

If Dubose was still behind the wheel, then surely your question should be how, not why.

Unless Dubose had a gun, and they can prove it, Tensing is guilty as hell. Or even a knife - though that would be a weaker case.

Goodness, that's not what the article says. Already the story morphs.

Deters called stopping DuBose for a missing front license plate a "chicken crap stop."
The cop says, "missing tag".

I can't find anything in the link that says the victim leaned across the passenger seat.

Victim voluntarily hands over a bottle of gin. He's polite. He doesn't have a license but tells the cop to look up his name. Cop says, "I want you to take your seat belt off". Dubose can be seen pulling back on the car door resisting having it opened.

Prosecutor says the cop lost his temper. This is what I've been saying all along, these cops lose their tempers over minor issues.

I also think quite often they pull those guns as an overreaction show of force then accidentally pull the trigger.

From there the cop gets caught in a lie saying he was dragged by his arm when that didn't happen. The car doesn't take off until the victim is dead.

I would think the presence of body camera video is the most significant factor here.

Remember the incident in Florida awhile back when a police officer shot (non-fatally, fortunately) a black driver stopped at a gas station because he reached too quickly to get his registration and licence?

The full, I assume unedited video, is now on the OP's link. There was no scuffle. Guilty as charged, life.
The cop goes on to say to another cop, 'I had my arm trapped in the car as he drove away...'. A blatant lie. Did the murderer not know his cam was running?

When I saw the headline earlier, I'd thought this was that incident.

My bad... piss-poor short term memory.

I can't find anything in the link that says the victim leaned across the passenger seat.

Video from the officer’s body camera shows a routine traffic stop turning suddenly violent when DuBose leans toward the passenger seat and Tensing fires a single shot into his head. DuBose did not appear to be belligerent or aggressive before the officer fired.

Toward, not across. A bit nit-pickish, friend.

Now, that is absolutely true. However, can it be proven whether or not they're losing their tempers more often because of the race of the perpetrator?

I also think quite often they pull those guns as an overreaction show of force then accidentally pull the trigger.

This is just my personal opinion, but I believe that the police career primarily attracts bullies, people with power issues, and so forth - people who do overreact, and who glory in the power of a handgun and a badge.
