As if TAM 6 wasn't going to be exciting enough on its own, there's now an entirely new event guaranteed to keep your toes tingling!

The Golden Pigasus Raffle!
An enticing combination of fun, prizes... and chocolate!

Here's how it works:

1. Once TAM is underway, get your fine self to the merchandise cashier and purchase an official Pigasus Raffle ticket for a mere $10. Or, purchase a whole bunch of them, but they'll cost you $10 each.

2. Put that ticket in a safe place, sit back and enjoy the conference.

3. At a time that will be very publicly announced (likely during the Saturday lunch break), we will unveil the Pigasus Redemption Table. You will saunter over, turn in your ticket and select a box from the display lavishly spread out before you.

4. Each box contains 24 absolutely delicious pieces of Pigasus chocolates... mmmMmmm! Hey, if that was all there was to this, that would be pretty good. There is, however, more...

5. One -- and only one -- box contains the Golden Pigasus. If it is in the box you selected, you win the Grand Prize! Ten additional boxes contain white chocolate Pigasuses, which will earn you a less-than-grand -- but still nice -- prize. If you don't have a white or gold Pigasus, you still have a box of chocolates!

6. Why is it structured this way? Because if we handed out the boxes at the time you bought the ticket, sales would likely plummet as soon as someone found the Golden Pigasus. This keeps it a mystery.

7. There are only 200 tickets available, so your chance of winning something is 11 in 200... better than the odds you'll find in the casino! And 100% of the proceeds goes to JREF!

The Prizes

The Grand Prize winner will receive one of Randi's original "Milk Can" touring posters from his personal collection. This is the real deal -- a first printing that might show a bit of wear, but a stunning piece of memorabilia nonetheless. Randi will autograph the poster and present it to the winner on stage. Those of you who watched the auction at TAM a couple years ago might remember seeing a similar poster go for well over $2000!

The other prizes are still being determined, but we promise they won't be DVDs of "Expelled." All prizes will be known before you plunk down your $10, though.

Tickets are likely to go quickly, so be sure to grab yours as soon as you can!

With only 200 tickets available these might go pretty fast. Will there be some sort of limit on the first day so people who show up later will have a chance? I'm not asking for myself since I'm arriving on Wednesday.

I wasn't expecting tickets to go on sale before the start of the actual conference on Friday morning. In fact, I'm trying to remember from past TAMs whether or not the merchandise tables were even up and running on Thursday...?

Cool, that should be fine then.

Oh! I really need to give a shout-out to this quiet forum lurker named CFLarsen, who originally had the idea to sell the chocolates as a fund raiser. Somewhere along the line it morphed into the raffle, and well, here we are.

They will be. But I think it is a good idea to start selling tickets when everyone's assembled, at the start of the conference.

During sessions, the book table and cashier tables close down. They are open during breaks.

That's OK - nobody knows who I am anyway.

What!? No grand tour of the secret factory?

Well, in this case "secret factory" = "our kitchen" so no, there won't be any grand tours. Besides, we just had it sprayed for Oompaloompas so it's not as interesting as it used to be.

Doesn't that mean I win the one million dollars?

Assuming you submitted your notarized application prior to making that post, then yes, Randi will award you the million dollars! You did submit your notarized application, didn't you?

Yes, they were set up and running. They were outside the conference area on Thursday, and inside after that, which is why you may have forgotten them.

That, plus I was probably just ignoring it since I prefer to spend my spare cash exclusively in the hotel gift shop. Skeptic books may be nice, but they can't hold a candle to a Wayne Newton snowglobe.

I think the tickets should be limited to one per person so everybody gets a fair crack of the whip or should I say chocolates. :):)

I'm not sure if that would work too well. There's a balancing act between giving everyone who wants to buy one an opportunity to do so and actually getting all of the tickets sold.

Ok point taken

I think this is a good idea. Then after everyone has had a chance, you can open it up again for multiple purchaser.

And so as not to create more work, it would be on the honors system.
