Ethan Berkowitz, the mayor of Anchorage, Alaska, has announced he will resign following a bizarre outburst and accusation by a local news anchor, Maria Athens.

The situation evidently began after Athens was involved in some kind of altercation at the television studio where she works - of which her boyfriend is the station manager - after which Athens was banned from returning to the studio premises. It's unclear what the altercation was about; but shortly after the incident, Athens claimed on social media that she would be "running a story" that night revealing that Mayor Berkowitz had allegedly posted nude photos of himself on an underage girl's website. The story never "ran" of course and the mayor vehemently denied the accusation, and a police investigation quickly cleared him of any criminality; however, Berkowitz, who is married, nevertheless resigned after admitting that he had been engaged in a years-long "consensual, inappropriate messaging relationship" with Athens.

Athens was arrested for trespassing, assault, and disorderly conduct after she returned to the TV station despite the ban and attacked the station manager there.
 
Hm, I wonder if/how this would be grounds for a lawsuit. It's not merely "opinion" because if I'm understanding correctly she implied she had evidence that he committed a crime. Also one of the worst types of crimes in society.
 
Some kind of "woman scorned" story?

Audio of a profanity- and racist-laden voicemail also surfaced late Monday, in which a woman who identified herself as Athens and who rattled off her network affiliations threatened to kill Berkowitz, who is Jewish, and his wife. The audio of the Friday morning phone call to Berkowitz was obtained by the online blog The Alaska Landmine.

I listened to the audio (which, fair warning, contains a lot of profanity) and she sounds unhinged.

I wonder what's going on? Is she just mentally ill or did he do something to her? Were they having an affair?
 
The words dirty linen, washing and in public come to mind and something about sticking ones dick in crazy.

When you specially select a list of perverts based on a specific shared trait, you end up with a list that can be used to imply a special concentration of perverts where none actually exists; that's just how reference fallacies work.

But, sexy text messages aren't particularly "perverted". The relationship was inappropriate because Berkowitz was married, not because of anything to do with the nature of the messages.

Need a timeline but maybe... Athens was having an affair with the Mayor (hence his resignation), manager boyfriend found out, argued and banned her from the station, she wigged out, came back and fought with him. Boom... arrested.
Mr. Mayor, you knew the rules... doesn't matter how good the sex is, dont sleep with crazy. [emoji53]

This other girl's mom who set the whole thing off sounds a tad loopy as well.
 
AP has a little more yo fill in the blanks. Station manager and Athens got into a fight while driving around town. Station manager demanded that she leave the car...

Athens nevertheless went back to the television studio and attacked him. When police arrived, she hit an officer trying to arrest her and was placed in full restraints after she tried to kick out the back window of the police cruiser with her high heels.
