While the marketer of the ADE 561 Bomb Detection Device is facing criminal fraud charges, it's worth noting that the US government continues to rely on a similarly pseudoscientific device: the lie detector. High-ranking US government officials swear by the lie detector the same way Iraqi officials do the ADE 561.
Recently, a veteran of the US Navy shared the story of how a failed polygraph screening "test" (a procedure dismissed by the National Research Council as utterly unreliable) led to his becoming the target of an espionage investigation.
