Lake disappears, baffling villagers

MOSCOW (Reuters) - A Russian village was left baffled Thursday after its lake disappeared overnight.

NTV television showed pictures of a giant muddy hole bathed in summer sun, while fishermen from the village of Bolotnikovo looked on disconsolately.

"It is very dangerous. If a person had been in this disaster, he would have had almost no chance of survival. The trees flew downwards, under the ground," said Dmitry Zaitsev, a local Emergencies Ministry official interviewed by the channel.

Officials in Nizhegorodskaya region, on the Volga river east of Moscow, said water in the lake might have been sucked down into an underground water-course or cave system, but some villagers had more sinister explanations.

"I am thinking, well, America has finally got to us," said one old woman, as she sat on the ground outside her house.

We're so dastardly and evil! Is there nothig we won't do? I've been in denial for too long, but now the cognitive dossonance has grown too great! If we will stoop to stealing a lake from poor Russian folks who have so little...then we truly are evil!

You should have tested your laser satellite thingy in the Nevada desert, first!

All your water am belong to us.

Yesterday Australia, today Bolotnikovo, tomorrow, who knows.

Bwahahahahahaahahahahahaahahhaha

on a completely unrelated note, anyone wanna buy a lake? We just got a new one today here at my Air Force base, and we decided we don't want to keep it. Too muddy, and it has all these broken bits of Russian houses mixed in.

After it has been in the possession of the Air Force, do I want to know why it is muddied?

Just a little test run before we use the device on middle eastern oil. :D

Considering the number of problems that would solve not a bad idea.

We got your lake.

We're getting the Dead Sea.

We've been working on the Aral Sea for several decades.

And of course, we know what's been going on in Africa.

We're working on ensuring that the Rio Grande is dry before it gets to the Texas-Mexico border.

Soon, we'll have it all. Then you'll see what it means to defy the will of America!

A barrel of oil for a bottle of water!

For all the wonderful things that the Bush administration has done over the last 5 years (at least according to Rush Limbaugh and Fox news), good international PR is not one of them.

Never mind the bits, we'll have it! In fact, we're always buying questionable second-hand stuff from the US military, so buying a lake from them is just the next step of many...

Mwahahahahahaahahahahahaahahhaha!!!

I think I can embrace this evil persona. :)
