OK, it's 2009, about 2 Months to go before the cruise, and about time we see who is getting in when.

According to a e-mail I got from Joe Wagg, the cruise line does offer transportation to the ship from the airport, at an extra cost. Probably still cheaper than a taxicab, and renting a car to sit in a lot for a week....:boxedin:

Anyway, I am arriving Sunday morning (8 March) on Continental Airlines Flight 1495 from Houston Intercontinental at 11:10AM. I had originally planned to fly in Saturday and get a hotel room, but as of now I will be in the United Arab Emirates until Friday 6 March, and the 20 hour return trip over 10 time zones will require a brief respite on Saturday before crossing two more time zones beginning at 6:00am Alabama time Sunday.

If I appear a bit groggy the first day or two of the cruise, it's just me catching up with the time zones....

Anyone else got their tickets bought?
 
I'm waiting for you all to post so I can decide when to arrive. I will be coming in LAX also.

I think we are staying in Long Beach at the same hotel Joe Wagg is staying at.

I think you are doing this wrong and I know Hutch is going to yell at you. We are supposed to post time/airline/flight #. You know so we can meet up at the airport and ride to hotels together.

We (meaning myself and at least two of the women accompanying me, maybe all three) will show up Friday afternoon on some Delta flight. Probably going to hang out Saturday in LA -- got some friends to see and a giant Scientology building in Hollywood to urinate on. Then we'll take the transfer from LAX to da docks.

Note that the Scientology urination is not officially endorsed by the JREF.
 
Anyone who will be around these parts should feel more than invited to come to lovely Chino, CA on Saturday afternoon/evening.

If enough people want to, I will be having a BBQ or something. I'm not positive for sure where I plan on spending Saturday night, it's only about an hour drive from here to Long Beach, but I don't want to have my car in Long Beach for a week.
 
I know Pool Boy made us reservation in Long Beach, but if we stay close to LAX we can use the cheap shuttle. If we stay where Wagg does, we'll have an expensive cab ride. I'm investigatin'. Hanging around the Scientology base sounds interesting.

I am waiting for your investigation Geek. I think the Scientology idea is a good one. But keep in mind I don't want to spend any time in jail and miss the cruise. Now when we return that is another matter, they can do without me for a while at work.

Does that mean we can wear those cool masks?

I'm hoping really hard that Robert and I will still be able to go. If we do, we will leave from our house the day of the trip. You can "pencil us in," hcmom, for your BBQ, if you have it.

What time do we need to be at the dock? I'm not getting emails about the trip because we didn't pay for it, I guess.

We're arriving Saturday night (7:30 or so, I think), staying at a hotel near LAX. (I want to arrive the day before the cruise, as opposed to the day of, in case there are snowstorm-related delays here. Mid-March is still winter in New England...)

I don't think we're planning to do much of anything that night except crash at the hotel. (Alas, a friend of mine is performing in a musical in Hollywood that night, but we're arriving too late to attend...)

So can we still use that Royal Caribbean shuttle from LAX, even if we're arriving the day before? Joe's email said the process is to find the Royal Caribbean rep in the baggage claim area. Can we get to this area on a day we're not flying?

Just finalized my travel plans at work. How's this for a 48-hours leading up to a cruise vacation?

I have put all the times in US Central Standard for easier reading.

Friday, 6 March

9:45 AM--Leave Abu Dhabi, Drive to Dubai to catch flight home
1:45 PM--Leave Dubai on Delta Flight 8

Saturday, 7 March

5:30 AM--Arrive Atlanta after non-stop 15:45 flight.
8:46 AM--Arrive at Huntville Airport after clearing customs and making my connecting flight
9:30 AM--Arrive Home

-----------------Spend 19 hours at home---------------------

Sunday, 8 March

4:30 AM--Arise and leave for Airport
6:00 AM--Leave Huntsville for Los Angeles via Houston
1:10 PM--Arrive LA, get bags, catch shuttle, board ship
1:11 PM--Collapse in large puddle of goo.

That's 4 flights, 12 time zones, about 11,000 miles, all in about 50 hours.

I'm getting too old for this stuff.

They said that you have to be at baggage claim by 12:30 to arrange for the shuttle to Long Beach, right? Or can you arrange for that before hand so that you can fly in later.

I also thought it said that you should not arrive at the cruise ship before 2:00pm but the ship leaves at 5pm. Seems like it took forever to get on board when we went to Alaska. Can they really process us that quickly, there are a lot of people going on this ship.

Please allow me a momentary drift from topic.

Those of you wishing to get RSL t-shirts or caps (see my sig) before embarking on the cruise, please order before 14th February. That will allow until 21st Feb for them to be delivered to me, leaving two weeks for me to get them out to you (bearing in mind most of you are not ordering from the UK and postage can take 7 - 10 days).

Please note on your order form that you need your items for the cruise.

Looks like most of us are going to meet at baggage claim Royal Caribbean to take the shuttle over to the dock. When it gets closer, can we exchange phone numbers or twitter or something so we can go together?
