Airport screeners could see X-rated X-rays

From the article:

"X-Ray Specs! See Thru Clothing!" blares the copy, which is illustrated with a cartoon of a drooling geek wearing the amazing toy goggles and leering at a shapely woman.

I had a chance to get some of those X-ray specs when I was a kid, but my Mom wouldn't let me. I'm still mad. :(

I suspose it could help them with recruteing

That could be the opposite

eta: any proof it works?

"Excuse me, Ma'am. The guard at the viewer says he will need you in the X-ray machine for another ten minutes before you're clear to go. <size=1> Oh, and he'd also like to borrow some of those tissues in your purse.</size>"

I heard a segment about this on NPR last week... supposedly, they aren't planning on installing the system in it's present incarnation. The guy said that they're developing software that will essentially censor the images before the security people see them. Reduce people to blocky outlines, while that knife, bomb, or whatever is left perceptible.

Am I the only one who foresees a sudden rise in weaponry shaped like people's naughty bits?

"Look out! That woman has a pair of breasts!"
"Well, of course she does..."
"No, I mean she's throwing them!"

As for the "X-ray" operators being able to see me naked, I have the exact same reservations I do with the possibility of strip-searching: I'm completely okay with it, provided I get to pick which guard or cop or whatever does it. I mean, you never know when these things might lead to something.

Isn't there also a problem with radiation exposure from X-Rays, especially from frequent fliers?

According to their webpage, 1 scan is worth about 24 minutes of X-ray exposure in Denver, or 50 minutes of exposure at sea level.

I freaked out when I read that, but from their website, it says exposure in microRem. So if anyone else read that as 24/50 minutes in front of a medical x-ray machine, that's not it.
X-ray COMPARISONS
The following are some of the typical exposure levels that can be experienced with other types of X-ray systems and some naturally occurring sources.

MEDICAL CT (CAT Scan) Up to 1,000,000 microRem
Chest, Mammography Up to 10,000 microRem

BACKGROUND RADIATION
Denver (5000 ft.) Up to 600 microRem per day
Miami (sea level) Up to 300 microRem per day
Inside vs. outside a building Up to 25 microRem per day

AIRLINE PASSENGER DOSE
One hour flight Up to 500 microRem per hour

Rapiscan Secure 1000 Less than 10 microRem per scan!

Sorry if I was unclear. I meant 24/50 minutes walking around randomly in Denver/sea level. :)
