Chirac's Comments Outrage EU Candidates
By REUTERS

Filed at 9:05 a.m. ET

...But Chirac rubbed salt into the wounds of the 13 nations waiting to join the bloc -- already angry at not being involved in the summit on Monday -- by saying they had misbehaved and hurt their membership prospects by siding with Washington.

OK. If the US had said that wee would be accused of arrogance and god knows what. The French have done exactly what AUP and UCE complain about regarding the US. Any comments?

Chirac said on Monday that joint statements by candidate countries declaring solidarity with Washington were ``childish and irresponsible'' and they had ``missed a great opportunity to shut up.''

Arrogant, limp, insipid, haughty, nasty, supercillious, tendentious, sheep poking, superating, effete, whiney, cheese smearing, frog buchering, wine swilling, big nosed, war loosing, jealous, Iraq oil trading, German popping, WW2 leg spreading, unhygenic, crummy Mirage Jet making, euro-trash, bastard

The beauty of the entire Iraqi crisis is that it has shown the American-hating Chirac for what he is--an angry socialist (communist?). Or it could be one of the most sophisticated PSYOPS operations seen in decades to keep France's massive Muslim populations in line.

Without doubt though it is France dreaming of empire.

Yes. Read these boards and the media. The French are being accused of arrogance and god knows what.

I don't see any double standards here (at least, not in that direction). People aren't pulling any punches when it comes, rightly or wrongly, to attacking the French.

Nobody makes a big fuss when france behaves in an arrogant fashion. It would be pointless and redundant. Kind of like complaining when we find water to be wet.

Well- it seems Chirac got slapped around with a wet trout by Poland and Chezch republic for saying all those thing. Harar
:D

A minor correction:

Without doubt though it is France dreaming of former empire and faded glory.

Ed. You da man!

I do wish you'd quit pulling your punches & tell us what you really think. I agree it's hard to think of adjectives for them that are sufficiently descriptive of their lack of character. ;)

There's a certain wry humour about the current round of French bashing (would anyone like to add "beret and stripey shirt wearing, bicycle-riding and twisty-moustache-sporting" to their list of anti-France epithets? *g*). Of course the war is not about Iraqi oil interests! And of course French objections are because of Iraqi oil interests!

I suspect that Blair is dreaming of former empire and faded glory too.

STOP PRESS! Just thought of another one--Saddam Hussein wears a moustache. And so do French men. Makes you think, doesn't it?

Hmmmm.... He also wears a funny hat.

Does anyone here think France is going to turn around at the last minute and abstain (tacitly support) on security council resolution authorizing war on Iraq?

Here's an interesting article from The New Republic from a week ago claiming just that.

I thought it sounded plausible, but as of today they don't seem to be getting any closer.
