Agnosticism = Gateway Drug to Self-Righteous Secular-Theism

Agnosticism is an egregious delusion... it is a gateway drug to the self-righteousness drug of secular-theism.

In 2023, no sane rational educated functioning human can conscientiously maintain belief in the biblical turpitude.

So what can one do other than chuck in the garbage the entirety of the irrefragably immoral and antithetical to reality codswallop that is their faith?

Well.... grabble for and clench tightly onto the buoy of agnosticism to eventually clamber onboard the secular-theism rescue boat.

It is what enables one, every year to participate in a ritual that celebrates the slaughter of children by a god that does not exist and observe the empty seat and table-setting for Elijah the prophet of a god that did not exist, in a house built on a land wrenched away from the bloodied arms of its autochthonous inhabitants, in the name of a promise and prophecy by a god that cannot exist.

By calling myself a secular-Jew I can carry on believing in the stuff of the Buybull that suits me and still be able to delude myself that I am a sane rational scientific 21 century intellectual.

As a secular-christian one can love Jesus and believe in cherry picked bits without having to avow Jesus the ill begotten Zombified demigod... but rather extoll Jesus the Julius Caesar or George Washington like character, the great teacher who started a human blood sacrifice cult hailing the imminent end of the world in the name of his father the god that does not exist.

It is too late for theism... the Genie is out of the bottle and no one can shove it back into it.... but at least agnosticism and secular-theism can still allow one to keep the bottle while patrolling forums, relentlessly and indefatigably hawking claptrap to prevent any further proofs that might shatter the bottle too.

This is just the same thread again. I'm obviously on the "agnosticism is not valid (or meaningful depending on where you want to split the hair" side, indeed I'm probably the loudest voice here on that topic, but this is not a new topic and doesn't need a thread while the other one is still going.

There is the additional topic of the unethical delusion of secular-theism as opposed to theism and agnosticism... which is a pervasive pernicious nonsense that allows one to rationalize all sorts of egregious acts and policies and politics.... e.g. ethnic cleansing and apartheid and land grabbing and support for all that with one's money and politics and votes.

Again my issue has always been with the "NOOOO! You aren't allowed to just say there is no God! You have to phrase is a passive, wishy-washy belief! You have to say you don't think there is a God or you are undecided or that you believe there isn't a God." horsecrap.

There is no God. I have zero idea what the issue is with me just saying that.

The people who fervently and for sooooo very long have been and carry on doing that.... is definitive proof that they clearly DO care.

The issue is that you then are shattering the bottle and there is nothing left with which to carry on whistling the tune that allows one to keep hawking secular-theism and peddling all that goes along with its insanity.

I like a nice salad as well as the next man. Howsomever, some folks insist on over-elaborating their salads, throwing in fresh or wilted or prepared ingedients undiscriminatingly, and then worsening the result with crazed mixing, tossing, and stirring. They end with a confused medley of nothing in particular, displeasing to every taste.

But you better not grumble, or you in trouble with the Man.

I mean, agnosticism clearly has no special claim as a precursor of self-righteousness. People very obviously come to be self-righteous for a wide variety of reasons. Why single out agnosticism? Seems like a bit of a mote-beam issue, TBH.

It could be argued that on many of these threads, the anti-theists are exponentially more self righteous. The agnostics are more "I don't find your zeal persuasive. Whatever".

If there's one thing I've learned from this forum, it's that atheism is not a cure for self-righteousness, no matter how the condition was originally contracted.

It hasn't been proved to my satisfaction that there is no "god". I am however, extremely skeptical that there is one. I guess I'm just a totally self-righteous bastard ;)

I think you are confusing irrational self-righteousness with rational righteousness...

Secular-theism is a self-contradictory, self-rationalizing irrationality held as a stance to alleviate one's Cognitive Dissonance while carrying on with one's self-righteousness.

Anti-theists are righteously combating the immorality and irrationality and its consequent mayhem caused by the self-righteous Cognitive Dissonance alleviating secular-theists.
