The report, which was based on a review of research into teenager sexual behavior, was being released Wednesday by the nonpartisan National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy.

The study found that while abstinence-only efforts appear to have little positive impact, more comprehensive sex education programs were having "positive outcomes" including teenagers "delaying the initiation of sex, reducing the frequency of sex, reducing the number of sexual partners and increasing condom or contraceptive use."

"Two-thirds of the 48 comprehensive programs that supported both abstinence and the use of condoms and contraceptives for sexually active teens had positive behavior effect," said the report

I think these are the same people who brought us the pigs in bar ad campaign.

That depends on how you measure success. The comprehensive programs did increase use of contraceptives. For many of those who are promote abstinence only the most this is not a positive result.

Um, you should read more carefully.

"more comprehensive sex education programs were having "positive outcomes" including teenagers "delaying the initiation of sex, reducing the frequency of sex, reducing the number of sexual partners and increasing condom or contraceptive use.""

They define right there how they measure success

"delaying the initiation of sex"
"reducing the frequency of sex"
"reducing the number of sexual partners"
"increasing contraceptive use"

Only one of these would not be a postive result by the abstinence only crowd (although it should be - jeez, if they are still going to have sex, better it with a condom, no?)

But they are not the ones in promoting these programs now are they?

That depends on their point of view. They where told the facts about how evil sex is outside of marriage, why are you trying to sheild them from the results of their sinful acts?

They know and chose to act in such a maner, they deserve the risks.

See it is all in the point of view.

I don't see why we would use the "view" of stupid people to determine success.

I am suggesting it is the view of the proponents. If you do not understand why people advocate their position, you can not try to refute it.

Failure and success are value judgments, so you need to consider that its proponents might have very different values than you.

Hey, here are some local jokes,

Do not push this button unless you have a sense of self deprecating humor!

Do you know why jesus couldn't be born here?

You can't find three wise men and a virgin.

A set of newlyweds is laying on the wedding bed, the woman whispers in the man's ear:
"Be gentle with me I am a virgin."

He gets of the bed and storms away "If you ain't good enough for yer pa and brothers I ain't wanting you."

There is a young man found by his mother in the forest masturbating. She says "Son it is time we got you a wife."

Later after the marriage she finds him in the woods masturbating , she says "Son you're married why you doing that?"

He says "Her arms got tired."
