A visit to the casino

I went to the (only ?) casino of Athens the other day. I was going to gamble some money, but after 15 minutes inside I changed my mind. Instead, I couldn't stop observing the players. I don't think I have seen so much misery and despair in the same place before. Even hospitals seem a far happier place compared to a casino. People were losing LOTS of money and from their looks you could tell they couldn't afford it. Outside of the casino I saw people crying.

What a sad and pathetic institution...

Weird, everytime I've gone to a casino I've seen people having a good time.

Yes, I understand that there are cultural differences. It's not coincidental that there is only one casino in Athens...

Hmm, I dunno, the slots area in Vegas seemed pretty grim to me. Not much fun going on there that I could see. OTOH, the people at the craps table were usually whooping it up.

Who needs a casino? I won $120 yeaterday in our semi-regular Sunday night poker game. I had 6 flushes in Texas Hold 'em!

Well, having lived for a while near Foxwoods, I went in there once to find out that at the "trading post" you can re-mortgage your house on the premesis.

You would think that this would be a silly thing, but I talked to one of the people there and, according to him, they get 1 or 2 mortgages a month out of gamblers who need to pay off their losses.

Couldn't be bothered gambling in casinos - doesn't interest me in the slightest as it gets very BORING very quickly. When we were in Las Vegas last, not a penny of ours went down a slot. I bet the MGM Grand people were furious!

Wildcat,

What's the buy in and when is the next semi-regular scheduled game?

6 flushes? You rock and how much did you pay the dealer? LOL

Hold'em is every other Sunday here. Always happy to put another seat at the table.

When I was in Las Vegas for TAM II, I gambled a grand total of $1.30, and lost it all. Never won once. I learned my lesson.
