First RIAA, now Newsweek or Time Magazine?

Japanese bookstores desperate to stop 'digital shoplifting' with cellphones
Mon Jun 30, 3:23 AM ET (YAHOO)

TOKYO (AFP) - Japanese publishers said Monday they will launch a campaign this week to stop digital shoplifters -- people who visit bookstores to photograph magazine pages with their cellphones rather than make a purchase.

Digital shoplifting is becoming a big problem as camera-equipped mobile handsets are spreading fast and their quality is improving greatly, said Kenji Takahashi, an official at the Japan Magazine Publishers Association.

Digital camera cellphones (and even those that take movies) are set to flood the American market.

Since the FCC won the case to force providers to let customers take their telephone number with them to other cell phone companies, providers will try to keep customers by adding more bells and whistles to cell phones. How about a cellphone MP3 recorder that uses the phone's built in microphone?

Geeze, the heck with copyright infringement, what about personal privacy? Big brother is US?

(feeling JUST a LITTLE paranoid here!)
