I haven't seen this one in here so I'll post it:
:dr:
Jesus was not the son of God, he was actually a human form of Loki, the Norse God of chaos, he was a practical joke by Loki to undermine belief in the one true god, Odin. Prove me wrong.

That is a variation on the question that I originally saw on alt.atheism posted by a fella by the name of Wen King Su:

"How do you know it's 'God' and not just a powerful deceiver?"

My usual flavor follows it up with, "I know that if I were Satan, the first thing I would do would be to convince everyone that I am God."

In the same way, your scenerio has a powerful deceiver making everyone think that Jesus is God. The big difference is that you have him doing it as a joke. I have him doing it as part of the master plan of world destruction.

My version is more addressable, I think, but it requires that one establish good and bad independent of god. Yours can't even be handled that way.

Do you have multiple historical sources that say exactly that?

No?

Let's say there really was a Jesus. He was born out of wedlock and his father explained to him, to save him embarassment, that he never had sex with his mother, that it was some kind of miracle. Okay, now JC grows to be a lad and gets caught up in the phony baloney explanation his old man gave him.

Now his friends who have been making fun of him for being a bastard decide to let it be and just get along with him. Unable to let go of the stigma of being born out of wedlock, JC becomes maniacal about his 'miraculous' conception and really begins to believe it himself. He sets out as a young man looking for someone who will believe his malarky and happens upon a group of incredulous young men like himself that wish to eat this story whole.

As the tale grows in the telling he lets it be known that he is destined to become a god on earth. He convinces his friends that he can perform miracles himself but no one else gives him even a mention in the local papers, as they realize he is full of it and is worthy of no notice.

Push comes to shove with his followers and JC is forced to declare even bigger statements involving his link with 'god'.

In his own dillusion he decides to have himself crucified, claiming he will come back after being dead. Its an easy thing to do, (getting nailed up), all he has to do is piss off the local establishment and away he goes.

He is bolted to the cross, appears to die, his buddies pull him down and go through a mock burial in a cave. Three days later, the never dead dude makes his miraculous recovery and the rest is history!

Sound plausible?

Sound plausible?

Well, It did to Hugh J Schonfield

Personally, I don't see the point. Either don't believe the miracle stories at all or accept the miracles behind the legends. A deliberate hoax would require the cooperation of too many people (including bribed Roman officials and or Legionaires) to pull it off.

Why would there be any? He tricked everyone into thinking he was the one true god. ;)

'Prove me wrong?' I doubt that a skeptic of Randi's caliber would even answer such a request. Prove yourself right! What evidence do you have that this Odin or Loki are any more real than this Jesus guy? I'm not trying to scoff, it sounds just a plausible as the stuff that's written. Please follow a least a little bit of logic, though.

I'm sorry, I guess you misunderstood me, to be honest, 'twas a joke on all that "Jesus proves God's existence" stuff you hear Xians spout off with. It was made to be scoffed. I guess no-one saw the smile icon next to it.
