In a flash, the face of the new Lebanon was unmasked. As celebratory music helped work the crowd into a frenzy, and with Kuntar and several other released terrorists on stage as props, the real "hero" and personification of that new Lebanon, Hassan Nasrallah, emerged for a few moments - his first appearance since January. The Druse-born Kuntar impulsively kissed his beaming hero. Nasrallah did not reciprocate.
"One of the greatest fortunes is that the unity government welcomed the freed prisoners," Nasrallah declared.

A while earlier the red carpet had been rolled out at Beirut International Airport, as warlords and politicians from rival factions welcomed Kuntar and the other released gunmen as national heroes.

Link.

An interesting - and disturbing - question. If this continues, Israel might not have to think too much about holding back next time.

And people said I was nuts when I said Hezbollah was the defacto government of Lebanon in 2006...

One thing you have to consider though is Nasrallah was hushed into his bunker again after his short appearance. I don't know if this is because he is scared of his own people, the non-Hizballah folks or Israel. At least it's a slight indicator he hasn't reached a situation without heavy security concerns when appearing in broader public.

Hopefully all three. And hopefully Israel is planning an appropriate (100,000 or so Hesbllsht/supporters) response for the 2 murdered Israelis.

The Freedom Fighter Samir Kuntar's release is just another sign of the Victory that Hezbollah had in the war with Israel.

Kuntar will rank up there with people like Nelson Mandela. Who after 30 years of illegal political imprisonment and torture. Was freeded by world public opinion.

Just another sign that the rogue fascist state of Israel is starting to crumble and descend into chaos.

Thanks for admitting you support child murderers. (Proven child murderers in this case)

Proven by a an unjust kangaroo Israelie court.

He had as much chance to a fair trial in Israel.

As a black man in the south in the 1930s

Hezbollah gets its money and support from Iran and Syria. Israel is smart. Syria would probaly stop supporting Hezbollah if Israel gave them back the golan heights. Syria should make a same kind of deal that Jordan made with Israel.

Well the truth is they didn't think much about holding back the last time. This shift in power towards Hezbollah can be laid at Olmert's feet.

Now try again, but without the personal attacks and bickering.

Beirut to secure Hizbullah's right to 'liberate' land

A draft policy statement that could secure Hizbullah's existence as an armed organization and guarantees its right to "liberate or recover occupied lands" is expected to be approved by the Lebanese council of ministers on Monday before being presented to the parliament in the coming days.

[...]

"This time, a vehemently anti-Hizbullah government - led by a majority that has significant Western support - has put its signature to a clause that allows Hizbullah to take actions in the fields listed without seeking government approval," Goksel said.

"It also puts an end to any dreams of disarming Hizbullah. It secures Hizbullah's armed existence."

Government sources in Jerusalem said the decision would make the government in Beirut an accomplice to any Hizbullah aggression and give Israel the right to hold it responsible.
