It'll be interesting to see just how conservatives will try to make more plants like this illegal. Just the existence of these few surely ticks them off to no end.

If you want to know more about the massive Ivanpah solar collector plant (aka the evil Liberal plot to exterminate freedom) go to this link.

Now I'm off to read up on how this is part of the Agenda 21 plan for genocide.

Do you have citation for solar power plants ticking off conservatives?

Actually, no. I'm having a hard time with that.

I was sure I would. I might have to eat crow on this.

Why should this annoy conservatives?

Well they pay more for products that aren't environmentally friendly. It would just figure they'd hate anything that liberals like.

But I'm not finding anything yet. Kind of embarrassing.

I HATE THIS MAP!!@!!

The data is incomplete. Wattage on the plant near me is blank.

Are you still in NM? The Albuquerque "solar power facility" is a Sandia research site. Not really a power plant. Makes the map somewhat less credible, but oh well.

Might it be government funding?

How about cronyism? I met a few who were quite upset at President Obama for that.

Heh, well, on the plus side I might have made some people aware of all the new solar plant construction that might otherwise have not have known.

Yeah, that's one way to pretend this thread isn't a total failure. I'll go with that.

I keep thinking this thread should be merged the Conservative Nuttery General/Travis's Hobby thread, but then I remember that it's not actually on topic for that thread.

I think "total failure" is putting it lightly.

On the bright side, if you ever feel like a change of pace, a thread about conservationist/environmentalist opposition to sustainable energy infrastructure might make an interesting counterpoint to your usual fare.

I drove by the parabolic solar farm west of Gila Bend; it is enormous. Ironically some of the biggest opponents of these solar farms are not conservatives, but environmentalists:

Many investors planned to install renewable energy power plants in California's Mojave Desert. The private sector’s desire to invest in this region is understandable. In 2006, a state law determined that one fifth of the electricity consumed in California must come from renewable sources through 2020. The Mojave Desert is an ideal region to produce renewable energy.

Not all environmentalists are in favour of this idea. According to David Myers, Executive Director of the Wildlands Conservancy, the Mojave’s landscape is idyllic, sacred and should remain untouchable. The desert shelters dozens of plants and animals that should be preserved. To the despair of investors such as Goldman Sachs bank and energy companies like Pacific Gas and Electric, environmentalists against clean energy are winning this unusual argument. This radical faction of environmentalists counts on the support of Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein, a powerful politician in the United States.

Yep, that noted conservative, DiFi.

I wouldn't be too upset if Ted Cruz went to prison for murdering Diane Feinstein. Now, if I could press a button to make that happen, and get a million dollars, would I do it? No. I'd first want to know what would happen if I pressed the button twice.

Having been on conservative boards. . . .Any kind of renewable resources $#%^ them off.

A map sure to anger conservatives
Surely they've accepted the (almost) spherical Earth?

Although "conservatives" in general may not be against renewable energy, the petroleum corporations surely are.
Folks like the Koch brothers and their various political groups are very seriously against renewable energy, seeing it as a direct threat to their own industry.
They spend millions in campaigns of disinformation and propaganda against renewables and rail against the possibility of government subsidy while taking advantage of massive tax breaks and subsidies themselves.
In some areas of the country, "conservative" may very well align with fossil-fuel interests, as in places where coal mining still provides the primary source of employment.
