A Criticism Of Religious Extremism And Silence From Moderates

From the link:

While many moderate Muslims voice opposition to these acts, it is after-the-fact, and this opposition does nothing to actually counter the extremism in the sense that it makes it weaker.
I think that sentence needs to be rethought!

Moderate Muslim voices do speak out against extremist acts, both after-the-fact as well as speaking out against terrorist acts in general.

Muslim World League chief says Rushdie attack ‘unacceptable’ to Islam

Secretary-General of the Muslim World League Muhammad bin Abdul Karim al-Issa said that the attack on acclaimed author Salman Rushdie in New York was “a crime that Islam does not accept” in an interview with Saudi news outlet Arab News.

“Islam is against violence and can never admit any method of violence. Religious and intellectual issues, including phrases that may read in full or partly as offensive, cannot never be dealt with in these violent ways,” al-Issa was quoted as saying on the sidelines of a conference on inter-religious dialogue in Rimini, Italy.

Here is the Wiki article about Muhammad bin Abdul Karim al-Issa, referencing articles from 2019/2020:

Al-Issa is considered a leading global voice on moderate Islam as well as a key figure in the fight against extremist ideology.[2][3] Religious leaders and government officials alike have commended Al-Issa for his efforts to promote moderation, and cooperation and coexistence among all people.

He has been speaking out against extremist violence for years.

When I heard the shocking news that the writer Salman Rushdie had been stabbed while participating in a conference, I immediately realised, without knowing further details about the attack or the assailant, that it is paramount as a Muslim to express absolute condemnation of this atrocity.

It's not that moderate Muslims aren't speaking out against violence, because they are. But those voices are rarely represented in the Western media until an extremist attack occurs.

My word, it just goes to show how much we've made it a better world for the middle-eastern muslims too. You have to kinda lack more pressing concerns, if the biggest issue in your life is that some guy in some other country was talking smack about your religion.

Linking to one's own blog without posting OP content doeth reek of spamming.

Agreed. Afraid Salamander's a serial spammer.

He's a skeptic, he does his bit to expose woo, if middlingly, and these topics are certainly relevant here, and so he has my sympathy, absolutely. Or had, past tense. In the past I've seen his vids, and clicked his links, and followed his threads. I may even have posted in his threads in the past, don't quite remember --- for what that is worth! But it's clear now guy keeps dropping these super low-effort threads here, not taking the trouble to actually discuss anything meaningfully in those threads, nor even bothering to add details of what he's posting in the OP, or even adding YT tags to his YT links. Clearly trying to use this place to drum up traffic for his videos/blog/website/whatever, while putting in no effort to engage here other than flooding this place with his links. In a word, spamming.

I haven't reported him for spamming, but I'm damned if I'm going to fall any more for this shtick.
