Matt is a friend of mine, he's a very talented fiction author, and just a really great person. He and I, however, do not agree about god and religion.

I thought some of you might like to read this posting of his. It's written in a thoughtful, gentle manner. I noted several missteps in logic in his post, but it is a topic of discussion for Matt, not an inspiration for his preaching.

In short, it's nice to read something from someone with which I disagree solely based on merit, and not almost entirely on attitude.

Either life means something or it does not. Either God exists, or God does not exist.

He makes this statement early and I don't think this is valid.

"Either life means something..." What does that mean? A purpose? Every songwriter knows it's 'to love'.

Does the life of a fruit fly mean anything? In geologic time, a single human life probably means as much.

"Either God exists or..." People say 'God' and naturally mean the OT god glaring at us or the NT God protecting us. But what if there is just a creative force god?...completely impersonal and mindless? This 'god' cares nothing for you. The Bible, the Vedas, the Koran all have it completely wrong. Is that still 'god'?
