Theists say people have existed for around 6000 years. For over 4000 of those years they would have had to have been aware of their God without the “benefit” of what is written in The Bible.
So here's my challenge to Theists . . .
Present your belief that a God exists without referring to...
I know, there are quite a few threads in this pattern already, but I think this is an interesting notion.
When some theists indulge their sexual appetites (see Ted Haggard, Larry Craig, various Catholic priests) their religion offers them an instant forgiveness. For Catholics it is through...
Theists will not defend their beliefs logically though they violate the most basic fundamentals of critical thinking. Why the free ride?
If a person believes something and wishes to force that view upon others (bring creationism / intelligent design in school, even though it has no evidence to...
I'm an atheist skeptic in the Bible Belt. Often tempted to leave family and friends and light out for the territory where people have a little more sense and tolerance.
It's hard to feel free here. You feel like if everyone knew what you thought, you'd be an outcast. In my case, my job would...
If I held the belief that a God was the creator of everything, I would be delirious with joy that a significant part the scientific community was championing the Big Bang Theory. I would claim that, as far as it goes, the BBT is essentially correct and fully supportive of my beliefs. The only...
Your explanation for evils in the world seem to be all rooted in God's allowing us to have free will.
God created free will. God wants us to have free will. God expects us to use free will. Yet every religious order is against its followers having any kind of free will at all. No choices, no...
Another serious question for theists...If Christ is to rule on earth after the apocalypse and God is ruling in heaven...why? In a perfect world and a perfect heaven there would be no need for rulers or rules. Everyone would automatically do what is right, no need for someone to judge actions.
I have asked this before on other threads but so far no reply. Can anyone demonstrate the "love" part of God. I honestly do not see a loving entity from the descriptions given about him.
Please don't give me that old saw about God saving two people while he let x number burn to death. That is...
In the spirit of the "marketplace of ideas", I think we should think about creating a Theists/Deists Alliance for TAMIII.
Perhaps we can have a little badge or even...er...The-De glasses?
T-shirts that say "Dim"? Posters with pictures of Great Theists and Deists Through The Ages...
My own approach would be to ask directly what observations, or states of affairs, present such a problem for our ordinary (i.e. non-supernatural) kinds of explanation, as to necessite the invokation of their god.
Now you get to demonstrate how their "explanation" really only shifts the problem...

quote by Hal Bidlack
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can a person be both a skeptic and a person of faith?
The answer is, Mr. Randi and I agree, a resounding YES...
---------------- Do you think this is funny? --------------------
Eample # 1
Or this?
Example # 2
Are you embarrassed? Ashamed?
Or, do you agree and approve?
Is this the voice you would have proclaiming your message?
This may be some kind of joke to the poster that calls them...
I wrote to the Jedi Knight at www.jediism.org thus:
and the response is thus:
So there we have it. The Jedi religion does not have a position on the existence of a Supreme Being.
I hope that clarifies something.
