Having read through a number of "libertarian" threads around here, I'm puzzled at the horror an vehemence some posters exhibit towards "socialised", i.e. tax-financed and/or state-managed health care.
Working in a prime example of a health care system that's not only tax financed but also under...
I've just read a series of articles on Ron Paul's former campaign manager Kent Snyder who died of pneumonia in 2008 after amassing over $400,000 in medical bills, which he could not pay. He could not afford health insurance because he had a preexisting condition. Now, I don't know if socialized...

I understand that medical procedures are free in the UK. Does that include elective treatments like in vitro fertilization or cosmetic surgery?
The reason I ask, is that the question occurred to me when I was reading these articles:
Church condemns lesbian IVF use
Peers attack 'fatherless' IVF...
I realize this is just one view, and that there's some serious questions about the balance of the reporting, (I think it's an Op-Ed piece), but it raises some very serious questions about socialized medicine.
I don't want anyone to have this kind of authority over me. Ever.
