Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.
I once had a Christian tell me, while discussing the issue of faith vs. evidence as a basis for belief, that "you can neither prove nor disprove the existence of God." This was after I stated that there was no evidence whatsoever that God exists.
What I get out of this statement is two things...
Wow! I thought my university produced shoddy research. Anyone care to tear this one apart?!

I read the remarks at NCH Pakistan forum that James Randi foundation has removed the offer to present one million dollar to whom who will prove that homeopathic potencies have starting material molecules in above 12c potency? Please confirm?

That is the title of a new book coming out at the end of this month. It looks very interesting. From the publisher:
Amazon has reviews from Publishers Weekly and Booklist.
Civilized
This term is often used as a value judgement to indicate that the person or society in question has attained a higher level of culture, a more complex system of government, and a superior set of beliefs, morals, and behaviors.
Having a high state of culture and development both social...
I found an interesting website, "The Edge." There are many interesting answers in response to the question, "What Do You Believe Is True Even Though You Cannot Prove It?"
http://www.edge.org/q2005/q05_print.html
Can you prove that you believe? Not what you believe or why, but that you actually believe. Is there proof of belief or is everyone's belief taken only on their say-so? Just wondering.
Look at this website on Christian logic:

Here's their rules:
This discussion forum is designed primarily for evangelical Christians and the board as a whole subscribes to Aristotle’s formalization of logic. If you are not an evangelical...
John Christie is the publisher of the Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel in Maine. This column was in the Sunday, September 4th edition of the Kennebec Journal. It's about hurricanes from his own perspective as he has been through some hurricanes himself.

I was thinking about that story of the New Hampshire police who were arresting illegals fo trespassing.
How do you prove citizenship?? If someone walked up to you and accused you of being illegal, how do you counter that. i was born here, but I dont exactly have a "citizen card".
After my month or so of private thinking, I came up with this idea, although it is probably not new in the least. My title is tongue-in-cheek, but still accurate. Here we go.
Premises:
------------
1) We will take believer's statements about their religion at face value when the statement is...
Last week the UK Advertising Standards Authority ruled on a leaflet advertising Penta Water. After considering information submitted by Penta and taking expert advice,

"What do you think is true even though you cannot prove it?"
This was the question posed to scientists, futurists and other creative thinkers by John Brockman, a literary agent and publisher of Edge, a Web site devoted to science. The site asks a new question...
I challange you narrow-minded debunking materialist sceptics to PROVE to me that there is no Harry Potter. The First Law Of Thermodynamics states that Apotterism is impossible! If matter can't be created by a natural process, then it must have got there by magic! Scientists have no answer to...
I've just read an article in a newspaper by a medium as a bite-back to Derren Brown's Séance TV show. The headline was along the lines of "We're no frauds".
Craig Hamilton-Parker also runs http://www.psychics.co.uk/ from where you can buy (you knew that was coming) psychic readings by phone...
Several people seem to think that it is not correct to refer to the nonexistence of God in an absolute way. If I say "God does not exist" someone will chime in and ask me to prove it. I am not talking about when God's existence is the main topic of discussion; any tangential reference to this...
Our good friend Kumar has put forth a challenge - Prove the Earth is round.
Unfortunately, he added clauses like Prove the Earth is round "to an idiot".
So, how about it folks?
I can think of a mathematical proof, that of Eratosthenes from around 230 BC.
He basically took measurements at two...
Who says you can't? Well, you're wrong.
There are many negative statements that can be proven.

That is probably one of the most well-written pieces of Philosophy I've ever read.
(Dont be surprised when you see plenty of people quoting that article...)
I understand theories are theories not because they are based on scant evidence but because they cannot be proven and new information can come to light which would require us to alter the theory to suit the new evidence. And from what i've read it seems only mathematics can be proven.
is it...
