Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.
Sorry, couldn't' find the original thread on this.... Search feature is not very responsive.
Anyway, the lad who "went to Heaven" and who was the subject of the best-selling book and movie...Has recanted. Says he made it all up...
He's a transcript of a documentary about people with NDE's.

TL;DR These atheists didn't believe in, or even know about hell, and then they died, went to hell and came back!
I have been watching videos of Youtube for Near Death Experiences for a few hours now and have been thinking, could they be telling the truth? I mean could do they honestly believe that they died and went to Heaven/Hell? I have also been thinking if they did not see what they explained why would...
Don Piper is a preacher who claims to have been dead for 90 minutes, visited heaven, and then came back. Unsurprisingly, he has written a book about it.
YouTube it, I can't post links yet. grrrrr.
I found very little online investigating this story, and what I'd like to know is...well...what...
My mother gave me a book a little while back that actually led to me finding this forum. The book was 90 Minutes in Heaven, by Don Piper.
The book chronicles his tale of having an automobile accident while driving home from a pastor's conference. He was pronounced dead on the scene by...
What is your take on the sort of Near Death Experiences where people say they moved out of their bodies and were able to go to other places and what they later declared was then confirmed by other people, such as family? Where people 'come back' and are able to say what the doctors said and...
Researchers Induce Out-of-Body Experiences
There were a couple of other experiments described but this one was the most intriguing. (Have you ever felt that you were this little creature sitting inside your head instead of being your head? You might have to be contemplating the Universe or...
My Sister-in-law owns a Restaurants in Flushing NY (Little Lamb Happy Family Restaurant), she is very allergic to watermelons, and someone brought one in. If that was not bad enough she took a bite. It was enough to put her into the hospital. This has happened before and usually she gets a...
What is the ultimate nail in the coffin, for the belief that human consciousness can exist outside the brain, during life and after death (OBE and NDE's)?
I have some friends who believe they'll retain their consciousness after death. For example, they believe when they die they'll somehow...
In another thread, Huntster claims that there is evidence of souls and cites (as one part of a long list):
... as evidence of near-death experiences (NDE) and that scientifically-documented NDEs are evidence of a soul. The website making the claim is http://www.near-death.com/evidence.html ...
I was thinking about how to assess claims of reincarnation that we often read about. A bonus is that examining claims of reincarnation could also be used to examine claims of Near Death Experiences, stages of reincarnation (hell, purgatory, etc.), if certain people get priority, and if there is...
This study was published today in the journal Neurology and is receiving widespread coverage in the media. The following is the abstract from the original journal article which appears under "Views and Reviews." Intrusion of REM sleep with all the known factors that accompany normal REM sleep...
I was reading through some websites regarding NDE or Near Death Experiences just to see how varied these experiences actually are and I found that the majority of NDEs are experienced by Christians or people with a Christian background.
Frankly, I was disappointed as I thought Muslim NDEs...
Ode Magazine's cover story this month is of the man who "proves the existence of a soul". In his paper on near-death experiences... http://odemagazine.com/article.php?aID=4207 ...
The nice thing is, there is a place for readers to comment...and past experience suggests that they do not delete...
Why do so many people see apparitions in the days immediately before their own demise ?
My aunt and uncle work in a lunatic asylum and they say that a few days before a patient dies they start seeing apparitions of people, even if they did not behave like this before or display these symptoms...
Does anyone know anything more about this guy ?
Apparently he was dead for three days and is mentioned in many places as the longest dead NDE experiencer.
Edited to fix link because the first moronic site had an apostrophe in the URL which meant it wouldn't work as a link here. Apostrophe in...
Robin Turner - Western Mail. UK - 14.10.04
This appears to be an article from here: http://icwales.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0200wales/tm_objectid=14726819&method=full&siteid=50082&headline=near-death-patients-tell-nurse-of-lights-and-jesus-like-figure-name_page.html

I seem to remember reading some research done into NDEs in hospitals. The researchers placed an object on top of a cupboard in the operating theatre, anyone claiming a NDE or OOBE were asked to identify the object. Does anyone know where I can find more info on this experiment?
Thought this article was interesting:
http://www.near-death.com/hindu.html
Granted it's on a woowoo site, and the studies have small sample sizes, but still interesting nonetheless.
That NDEs apparently seem to be dependant on the culture and belief system tells me that the phenonemon...
http://www.nbc10.com/news/3253894/detail.html
I'm not quite sure what that means, but somehow, I think of the McMartin preschool abuse case when I read about interviews with children. The investigators asked leading questions, and generally had the children say what the investigators wanted to...
We've heard a few anecdotes about people having NDEs, but which is - by the "experts" in the field - actually the best argument that NDEs are paranormal?
Steve Grenard has thrown out a claim of "100s of other documented cases".
Which one is the best? The five best?
So there I was innocently reading a thread about the supernatural over at the SDMB when someone mentioned that there's a feature article in the August, 2003 issue of Readers Digest which offers scientific proof that NDEs are not a biological event. I was so busy rolling my eyes at this...
I would probably be a different person...
I would need you all in that case to give me the dose of reality. The "it's all in your head" thing... etc. I am insuring myself against being deceived by an illusion.
Reality may be bitter, but it's better than the alternative.
