Breaking wind! Er, news! According to one of his staffers, Donald Trump thought that China had developed a hurricane gun to create storms and direct them at the U.S.A. Story here.
I guess this is the section for this.
It's bad, folks. The levees seem to be over all holding around New Orleans, but the sheer amount fo rainfall is causing flooding, and the winds are horrible and will do structure damagen.
Late news>French Quarter is flooding from sheer amount of rain.
And...
This is the strangest article I've ever seen on weather.com.
https://weather.com/storms/hurricane/news/2018-09-07-florence-unusual-track-united-states-east-coast
It starts off with the title:
The article never even addresses that, as far as I can tell. And kind of out of the blue, they...
It is looking like Hurricane Florence is not going to swing north and might run right into the Carolinas while at category 4 strength. Reminds me eerily of Hurricane Hugo which is a pretty vivid memory from my youth.
Any forumers live in the possible path?
Hurricane Maria has left Puerto Rico in a complete mess.
According to an article I read, Puerto Rico has four power plants. Two of them are functional, but the transmission lines that take the power out of the plant are down. Two others suffered water damage and are non functional.
They have...
So now José is a designated Cat 1 hurricane.
No way, José!
With Katia also upgraded to Hurricane, that's four hurricane storms within weeks of each other.
Category 4 Hurricane Irma may hit Florida; too early to be sure.

Catastrophic Flooding in Houston. America's 4th largest city is a disaster area. It is Katrina/New Orleans all over again.
I am not providing links because a simple search will give you plenty.
New thread because the Hurrican Harvey seems to be dead.
Once again, it is a case that the rain is the...
Strengthening Harvey forecast to slam Texas coast as first major hurricane in U.S. since 2005

Is anybody here being affected by this? Winds up to 270kph. As of now 65km east of Bowen, due to hit landfall within an hour or two.
Keep safe guys.
Well, I don't know if this belongs in USA Presidential Election or 'Current Events'-- it's both. Apparently the mods felt it belonged in 'Humor'--but despite my failed attempt at a humorous title--this is most definitely deadly serious. Hundreds of miles of coastline from Vero Beach to South...
I don't know about this, sample size is too small, and too many variables. Personally, Id be far more terrified of a female storm, so not sure I buy the psychology claimed...

Michael Brown, he of "You're doing a heck of a job, Brownie" fame, has criticized Obama's rapid response to Sandy:

Forecasts now have it going ashore near New Orleans still strengthening and becoming a Category 3 briefly.
Anybody there? Are they taking this seriously?
What happens when we build the offshore wind farms and a hurricane hits them? Would they have to be evacuated/shutdown ala oil platforms or could they withstand the hurricane and provide a huge bonanza of energy?
Thanks, I'll hang up and listen.
So the Democratic People's Republic of Alexandria, eternally vigilant in its role as my mommy, sends out an email to subscribers of its email notification of city events. What with dread killer hurricane Hanna blowing up the coast, they give advice about what to do to stay safe, including...

Just as I said, the data is very noisy and we can't be sure we see the signal here yet, though the trends are weakly suggestive of agw. NOBODY who was even marginally competent would want to use this to...
First, I am very glad that the response to the wildfires in California has been swift and well executed. However, I've heard unflattering comparisons between the emergency response to these fires and the emergency response to hurricane Katrina. Obviously, there are huge differences in what can...
I was sitting around the barn with some of the locals, and we were wondering, what would happen if you dropped a nuclear bomb into a hurricane or a tornado? Besides being a possible plot for a really bad SciFi Network movie, would there be any positive effects? Or would you just have an even...
I thought I was misreading this when I read that lightning is claimed to disturb trade winds the way rocks in a stream create turbulence. I'd never imagined a connection between lightning activity and large scale air movements and really still don't see how that could happen so I wish there was...
At the risk of starting another GW thread that'll probably go the same way as all the rest of them...
Not a year ago, Global Warming was claimed to mean more hurricanes, and more severe hurricanes. On this forum, we were treated to people showing us the "first ever South American hurricane" (it...
Quo Fata Ferunt. That is the motto of our little island of Bermuda, and it means "Whither the Fates Carry Us." Well, this phrase is particularly apt - because the ogre by the name of Hurricane Florence is currently thundering towards our little island like the inexorable tide of Fate. Because...
So, if last years hurricanes were so bad because of global warming, and we've burned more fossil fuels in the meantime, where are all those extreme hurricanes this year? Wasn't Katrina about #5 last year?

This writer understood in May what could happen and how....but I suspect this wasn't on FEMA or Homeland Security's reading list...
John Christie is the publisher of the Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel in Maine. This column was in the Sunday, September 4th edition of the Kennebec Journal. It's about hurricanes from his own perspective as he has been through some hurricanes himself.
