    Fibonacci's number

    Can someone explain to a math deficient person (me) what the real deal with Fibonaccis number is? I understand that is is a useful ratio and that it allows certain geometric functions, but does it really show up in nature as often as is stated? i.e. body parts, plants, planets, solar system...
