460 days until 2,300 days - Daniel 8:14
This post was originally in the free-will thread, but as it was titled with a doomsday prophecy, I have copied it to start a new thread where the prophecy will be more on-topic.
The absolute definition of free will belongs to our Creator alone, but...

Numerologists have re-calculated, yet again using the usual sources, Bible, Bible code, date markers in the Pyramids so we can be sure this time they are correct.
Oh did I forget to mention that...
Well, didn't this story get interesting in the comments:
Mayan documentary film maker says he will reveal “every archaeologist’s nightmare”
A journalist and someone VERY critical of the journalist showed up in the comments. The crazy comments sound very much like a big fan of Julia-Levy or...
As I remember it Sedona became a New Age town due to the Harmonic Convergence in the 1980's, who knows what's going to happen here, especially if 2012 turns out to be a big bust.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-12058674
and for some more lowbrow fun...
Camping admits he was wrong, has no evidence to support the end times a'comin, and says he wont be predicting them again.

ETA: I think this comment summed it up best;
For those who came in late, Ronald Wienland claims to be one of the two prophets "dressed in sack cloths" that is mentioned in the book of revelations (his wife is the other one). He has written books and made blogs explaining that these are the "end-times" (again).
In spite of the fact that he...
There is quite some noise around about the supposed Mayan prophecy of the world ending in 2012.
Why is it not said louder that it's an urban myth, that there is no such Mayan prophecy?
The Skeptic's Dictionary has an entry on it, or if you want it easy, read the kid-version entry.
Besides...
Just 350 days till the Mayan No Year!
:p
Use this thread to count down the days, even if it has to go into negative numbers!
Are we having fun yet? We should party like it's 1999!
:D
No it´s not a "the end is near!" thread. It´s more of a question. As we enter the year, do you guys think we will see a radicalizing of the 2012 hoax or not?
Yet another 2012 thread.
No news article, just me looking at something.
This question kept me busy for a while because, like the Camping débâcles, I wondered whether people might have excuses ready for when nothing happens.
So I came to this site...
Oh, noes, the Great Pyramid will lose its strength!!!11!

http://www.smh.com.au/world/the-world-will-end-again-on-friday-night-20111017-1ls7w.html
This Friday is The Day, according to that fount of all things apocalyptic, Harold Camping.
I'll try to keep this as short as possible. I actually want to say about 5 pages more. This is an original post never typed out this way before.
Matt. 24.32-33 says after Israel becomes a nation again, the return of Jesus is "very near". Previously Jesus was denouncing Israel as the fig tree...
How many times must a person be wrong before they admit that they are yet to be acquainted with John Feces when it comes to predicting the end of the world?
I believe this fool will once again come up with some lame excuse and it will be more ridiculous than the last one.
Camping
South...
From time to time, the Universe tests the natural evolution of the mind of human species. The 2012 hoopla is an example. The subject spread around like Spanish flu and became familiar to the point of Hollywood capitalizing on the notoriety.
The principle of the test calls for completing a...

As my supervisor would say: "meet the new Rapture...same as the old Rapture".
Now, considering that people have sold their homes, given up all their possessions, committed suicide, tried to kill their children and...
http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/20110523/ts_yblog_thelookout/doomsday-prophet-followers-flabbergasted-world-didnt-end
I'm flabberghasted this old man got the press he did.
Do you think it helped erode confidence in mainstream religious beliefs, or did people just compartmentalize it as "just one kook"?
I wonder if it made any difference. Of course, all I have is anecdotal evidence....
The people I've heard talk about it just chalk it up to a single nutter...
Don't worry. Once all the christians are taken to heaven during the rapture and leave us heathen skeptics to suffer on Earth, there are some things we will no longer have to worry about.
No more worrying about intelligent design in schools.
No more denying gay people the right to marry...
;)
Just asking, since, you know, most of you won't be saved. No matter how good and decent you are. No matter what you donate to charity. No matter how many lives you've saved, no matter hospitals you've opened, no matter how much change you've given a homeless person.
Does the threat of...
So far I've heard:
1) My math was wrong. It will actually happen on this specific later date.
2) God is forgiving and gave people more time to be saved.
3) It actually happened it just looks like it didn't.
I think each of these has been used for past rapture no-shows.
These are Harold Camping's predictions for the rapture, which he assures us will occur on May 21, 2011. He also assures us that the universe will end on October 21, 2011.
1. World's worst earthquake.
2. All graves from whole of human history (all 13,000 years of it) will open scattering 130...
Yes, it's coming, sinners.
NPR had a nice segment on Weekend Edition on the folks who say the End is really, seriously near:
http://www.npr.org/2011/05/07/136053462/is-the-end-nigh-well-know-soon-enough
Note that the leader of this bunch previously predicted 1994.... He says he hadn't worked...
So the rapture is due on May 21st this year, having been revised from the original 1994 date advocated by Camping.
Now, I was going to suggest that on 22nd May we get brian to do a podcast that said "nope still here." But the part of me that enjoys cruel jokes has a lingering desire to phone...
So, this billboard showed up by my work last week. Apparently, the world is ending again. This time, it's May 21, 2011. I guess they are trying to beat the rush during 2012. Has anyone else seen these billboards?
