Story and video here
The crime itself is disgusting. But didn't it occur to any of these girls that what they were doing was a serious crime, and that posting a video of it on MySpace might not be a good idea? Apparantly they have been thinking they can get away with a slap on wrist. I hope...
I have some questions related to crime and technology and I put it in this section because I think the issue is mainly societal acceptance.
1. Using any plan concievable, is it now technologically possible to eliminate violent crime?
2. Will it be in the foreseeable future, with continued...
Sylvia's often described as "working on" missing persons/ homicide cases (and more than a few cases of missing bodies, I might add) but she occassionally got asked to solve other crimes.
She was asked to help find a perpetrator in a few rapes, assaults, abductions over the years. I'm putting...
I apologize right off the bat for everyone who reads this and is sick to death of the story. But, hey, I put the name in the thread title, so you were warned.
I’ll post this question here since here is where books are discussed, although this isn’t literature.
Ever since O.J. first tried to...
Charge added for man "not warning the [rape] victim that he was HIV-positive"
Link.
So, if he had simply warned her first, that would have lessened the offense?
:wackyskeptical:
The Lost War is an excellent article that reveals how futile and counterproductive the so-called "War on Drugs" is. This is not to suggest that illicit drugs or drug addiction are harmless, but rather that our punative approach to dealing with them causes more harm than it prevents. Simply put...
Seems like a lot worse should happen to the jerk. How 'bout some time in jail?

I'm also wondering who these marketing companies are and what their obligations would be to ensure that the data they receive is obtained through proper channels. Do they have any?
Well, I've got some good news and some bad news; the good news is that burglary and home invasion crimes are down, the bad news is that firearm accidents and spur of the moment passion crimes are up.

http://www.newscientist.com/channel/opinion/mg19225722.900-fewer-cheap-guns--fewer-criminals-with-guns.html
Violent criminals tend to be not too bright, opportunistic and impulsive. Raising the price of guns removes their access to a cheap weapon, cutting crime.
Makes sense to me.
The advert in question is this one:
The original complaint to the police came from a Christian preacher, he states that the picture alongside the text (which made a statement that something like 75% of crimes against homosexuals had some motivation arising from the criminals religious beliefs...
For those of you in the UK, you can't have failed to notice the "knife crime out of control" headlines of the last few days....

The more religion you bring into the culture the more violence. So how can anyone claim that religion = morales when this research paper doesn't show such a correlation?
I recently got through listening to Freakonomics, dumb name but let it slide for now. Interesting book on the economics of the crack trade, real estate agents, and most controversial the link between abortion and lower crime.
Here's a link to the chapter excerpt on abortion and crime...
Heh, good to know that the government is on the ball when it comes to tackling youth crime... http://www.ntlworld.com/partners/itn/britain/story937536.php
Hahahahahaha, Hoooohootityhoooo, ROFLMFAO etc. etc.
What a bunch of clueless ba*tards! How long before the new uniforms are required...
Seriously, nothing gets me more hot under the collar than what we have seen in recent days.
Two sets of statistics come out, one of them is widely recognised as unreliable (the police's recorded figures) due to changes in recording techniques, levels of reporting e.t.c. The other is a survey...
Pool Boy is enjoying his usual trip to Europe for business. He said everyone warned him "crime is way up" in Europe. He said since "the natives" are always complaining he didn't pay attention. For the first time though it seems the "group" has had some crime.
While they stay at really nice...

Crime may be dropping in US, but gun possession is rising
(Gee...who'da thunk?)
So, spending lots of time arresting and convicting people for the mere possession of a...
It gives the Left something to complain about. Of course, it makes investing more difficult because one has to avoid investing in companies like Enron. On the other hand, the Left was never particularly concerned about the well-being of investors. Only those who want to encourage long-term...
All the figures suggest that crime has risen substantially over the last 80 years in the UK. It is difficult to judge how much, since figures are reported differently and it's not clear that as much as 50% of all crimes were reported in the past, as they are today. But it does seem clear that...
Amnesty on Sexual Rights as Human Rights
The UN Comission on Human Rights affirms Sexual rights as Human rights!
I can understand that GWB doesn't want abortion to become a human right but what is it about the Rome Statute that the current admisnistration objects to?
Shouldn't rape be a...
