Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.
It's not even very high-tech or anything, and doesn't require electricity to run, but it seems to be a huge improvement over the prior art:
Flow Hive Delivers Honey on Tap Without Stressing Out the Bees
There's a video that shows how the inside of this thing works. The video is well worth...
Home Depot has announced that it is going to start requiring plant suppliers to label the plants that contain neonicotinoid pesticides on plants that they sell. This move is in response to honeybee decline/colony collapse. Other US companies are also going to require supplier to stop the use of...
It would seem academics are being sidelined by regulators and the pesticide industry even though their research shows legitimate concerns.
From a BBC report
"Pesticides linked to honeybee decline"

I've been greatly enjoying watching documentaries on netflix. However, as we all know, these documentaries are filled with biases and opinions that often go unchallenged. I would love to have some people to bounce ideas off of and consider what is a valid claim and what is simply unsubstantiated...
After reading Michael Crichton's novel, Prey, I've become fascinated with the concept of 'emergence'. I’m sure some of you have read it.
Some common examples of emergence include:
The swarming of bees (or any swarming organism for that matter): which appears to create a somewhat ‘conscious’...
This again? I thought it had been discredited already.

Can anyone smarter then me discuss this?
(Sorry still can't post linkies)
An unlikely team of biological warfare experts and university entomologists has determined a possible cause of the mysterious "colony collapse disorder": A "tag team" of a virus and a fungus that, when combined, devastate bee colonies.
From the New York Times.
The original peer-reviewed...

I thought this was very interesting what with all the ruckus about microwave transmission. No one could see this one coming.
A typical statement:
"A dramatic spate of bee deaths is being observed in the USA. In many regions almost 90 percent of the population has been affected. In Germany and Switzerland too, colony numbers have virtually halved in the last 15 years. But what are the causes?" (from...
I checked Snopes.com to see if the quote that has recently been attributed to Albert Einstein regarding bees ("If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe, then man would only have four years of life left."), but couldn't find anything conclusive.
I did, however, find that the...
Howdy --
A friend of mine forwarded me this video of strange behaviour of viscous fluid, in this case shampoo, highlighting something called "the Kaye Effect."
I also found this other really cool video of experiments done with water spheres in space. Maybe I'm a geek, but I think these are...
"LUCUS" has become my new favorite poster over at LCF, for nuggets like this:

BUT! This thread isn't really about him. I guess.
I haven't heard a peep about any sort of crisis in the world's bee population, so I did...
Article here
I read this story on Digg and it seemed a little off. The introduction to the article seemed like a set-up for bad reasoning. The article is laced with technical terminology that I can't debunk.
I figured it's something somebody here could confirm or denounce.
