Will tariffs make America great?

Trump will not be able to impose arbitrary 100% tariffs left & right, he simply has no such authority. And smaller tariffs require oversight, reviews, timetables. Constitution gives power of tariffs to Congress not the President.

I posted Donald's extended rant in the Trump thread. It's mainly about the court and his choice of judges. Apparently he was given bad advice when he was choosing judges for the various courts.

Weren't the people who advised him then the same ones who are advising him now?? Also, nothing is EVER Taco Don's fault.

Courts should know that Tariffs cause irrevocable harm - a company that had to close can't just open again.
Letting them continue until a ruling is bonkers

US courts are a ◊◊◊◊-show
It's a strong indication that the court will side with TACO on appeal. In cases like this the usual practice is to hold the injunction live until the appeal is heard, unless there is a compelling reason not to.

i'm not sure about that. it's pretty standard for an appeals court to stay the previous ruling until it's able to assess whether it's lawful or not.

but it's not unlikely they'll side with trump. they allowed him to keep nuclear secrets in his toilet.

I suspect SCOTUS may be starting to tire of the incredibly adverse publicity and very public exposure and opprobrium they are being forced to endure in upholding TACO's madcap lawsuits. I'm sure the learned gentlefolk are all too well aware of the pretzels they have already knotted themselves into so far in "justifying" his appeals. They are also going to be all too well acquainted with his defiance of their court, or indeed any court, rulings that go against him. So I think their goodwill and support of Trump is not boundless. I know that a couple of them are hardened little Roland Freislers, so they may have to be paid off even harder than their already botty-wincing grift to date. Or perhaps they might actually reach the end of their legal tethers with his antics, defy him, and arrange for him to be 25th Amendmented.

if anything i hope the dems have learned the power of a catchy four letter acronym and an insulting nickname. his greatest strength has become his achilles heel.

edit

i know we can't ever criticize the sacred cow that is the voter, but this is how stupid a significant chunk of the electorate is.

Are they up or are they down?

Well today they are up again.

He's putting tariffs on aluminium and steel to 50%

President Donald Trump has announced the US will double its current tariff rate on steel and aluminium imports from 25% to 50%, starting on Wednesday.

Speaking at a rally in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Trump said the move would help boost the local steel industry and national supply, while decreasing reliance on China.

Trump also said that $14bn would be invested into the area's steel production through a partnership between US Steel and Japan's Nippon Steel. Details on the partnership are still unclear and both companies have yet to confirm a deal.

Yep. We did have a dealio for the USA. No longer, it seems.

So Trump's tariffs are a negotiating position to get other countries begging for a deal, and then Trump definitely doesn't chicken out, he does a great deal instead. And then he throws that deal in the trash and puts tariffs back on from which he will definitely not chicken out for a few days. Rinse (in chlorine, as it's chicken) and repeat.

It's permanent revolution. Mao's cultural revolution redux.

As we say here: yeah, nah. Not interested any more.

Arth is right: we have other major trade partners who are proving to be both sane and reliable. Or at least more so than Trump. So the USA can go spin on it all by themselves for the meanwhile. They can get back to us after the gibbering baboon has been removed from their national steering wheel.

The volksgerichtshof's reputation has been in the gutter for a number of years now. Their reaction has always been to blame everybody else for their mess ups.

well the courts said he can’t and has to refund, this week he’s begging other nations to make a deal before his self imposed deadline, so idk what that even means anymore
